Show Funeral Services Are Held For Former Cedarite Funeral services were held Friday Fri-day in the Milford LDS ward chapel for John Anson Root, 92, one-time resident of Cedar City and well known to many people of the entire county. Mr. Root died Monday, July 3, in a Salt Lake hospital of causes incident to age. Mr. Root, an early Utah pioneer, pio-neer, crossed the plains to Utah in 1865. He was an early day stage driver in the state, and engaged en-gaged in may of the state's industries. in-dustries. After retiring 25 years ago Mr. Root lived in Milford until he moved to Salt Lake City to live with a daughter, Mrs. F. W. McKay, Mc-Kay, three years ago. He was born in Iowa City, Iowa, June 13, 1858, a son of Lewis and Eliza Ann Holland Root. After moving to Utah with his family when he was seven years of age, he set tled in Cedar City where he received re-ceived his early education and engaged in ranching and mining industries. He moved to Salt Lake City in 1905 and served as driver of a mail stage. Later he moved back to Cedar City and then to Milford. Mil-ford. In January, 1884, he married mar-ried Margaret Pace In New Har-mony. Har-mony. Mrs. Root died in 1946. He is survived by one daughter, daugh-ter, Mrs. McKay, and three sons, Pratt and Max Root of Milford and Cass Root of Salt Lake City. Also surviving are three grandchildren grand-children and three great-grand children. |
