Show Funeral Services Held Saturday July 6, For Mrs. Maurine Nelson Funeral services were conducted in the Fifth Ward Chapel Saturday Satur-day afternoon for Mrs. Maurine Cox Nelson, 37, who died suddenly at the Iron County hospital Thursday Thurs-day of pulmonary embolism. She had submitted to an operation several sev-eral days earlier and was apparently appar-ently making a very satisfactory recovery when she was suddenly stricken Thursday morning. The services were conducted by Bishop William Snow, and the speakers were Mrs. Maggie Mac-farlane, Mac-farlane, Frank Armstrong of Enoch and Bishop Snow. Invocation was by Dwayne Matheson, benediction by Gordon Smith and dedication of Wie grave by Bishop Elihu What-cott. What-cott. Preliminary organ music by Mrs. Bernella Jones, cud the musical program was as follows: Opening song, "Lift Thine Eyes," by a double trio composed of Mrs. Annette Betenson, Mrs. Ann Gardner,, Miss Mamie Gardner, Mrs. Maude Hal-version, Hal-version, Miss Ruth Corry and Mrs. Mariam Luke, accompanied by Mrs. Jones; a vocal solo, "Lay My Head Beneath a Rose," by Myles Walker, Walk-er, accompanied by Mrs. Beth Leigh a double mixed quartet, "Sweet Flowery Land," by Mrs. Betenson, Mrs. .Gardner, Mrs. Halverson, Mrs. Luke, Ray Cosslett, Vernon Jones, Myles Walker and Herschcl Neeley, end the closing song, "The Lord's Prayer," by the ladies double trio. An active LDS church worked, Mrs. Nelson had worked in the Relief Re-lief Society in her ward and at the time of her death, was president of the Fifth Ward Primary. She was born at Pinto on October Octo-ber 2G, 1908, a daughter of Joseph D. and Mary Thornton Cox, and moved to Cedar City with her parents par-ents in 1920 and had resided here since. She attended public schools here and was married to J. Hunter Nelson on May 19, 1926. Survivors include her husband and mother; three children. Rex B., , Jerry and Joann Nelson, all of Cedar Ce-dar City; six brothers and sisters Joseph Ray Cox, Ogden; Dee T. Cox, Provo; Oliver G. Cox, Salt Lake City; Mrs. Lola Dalton, Delta; Mrs. Jennie C. Jones, Los Angeles, and Robert Cox, Cedar City. |
