Show Randall Lunt Jones Dies of Heart Attack Wednesday Randall Lunt Jones, 65. native of Cedar City, and one of Ceda!. City's and southern Utah's most ardent boosters, died suddenly Wednesday Wed-nesday at 8 p.m. at his home in Salt Lake City, from a heart attack. at-tack. No individual has done more to promote southern Utah's scenic attractions than Mr. Jones, who for many jwars has devoted his entire time to promotion work. He was stricken while mowln, his lawn a few hours after returning return-ing to Salt Lake City from Cedar City where he had been visiting with his son Honer Jones and family. The Salt Lake fire department depart-ment rescue squad was summoned, but he was pronounced dead before be-fore help could be given. A special representative for the Union Pacific Railroad Co., Mr. Jones was nationally known for his colored illustrated lecturei on southern Utah's national parks and monuments. Through his efforts ef-forts these scenic attractions were made available to millions of visitors. Mr. Jones was born in Cedar City March 5, 1881, the son of Thomas J. and Eva Lunt Jones. Obtaining his early education in Cedar Cityi he later went east to. study architecture. On his return re-turn to Utah he taught In the old Murdoclc academy in Beaver and then went to Cedar City, where he opened an office as an architect, teaching at the Branch Agricultural college on the side. He was the designer of the El Escalante hotel in Cedar City, completed b; the Ulalon Pacific Railroad Co. in 1923. , He married lLovian Swapp of Kanab in the L. D. S. St. George temple Dec. 6, 1904. Survivors include his widow, thvee sons, Homer S. Jones, Cedar City; R. Karl Jones, Provo, and Lewis Jones, Los Angeles. A fourth son, Pvt. Wayne K. Jones, was killed last December in an automobile auto-mobile accident at Camp Abbott, Ore. Ten grandchildren also survive. sur-vive. Also surviving are two sisters, Mrs. Sadie Thorley and Mrs. Cora Stuck!, Cedar City, and three brothers, Marvin M. Jones and Elton L. Jones, both of Cedar City and Dr. Preston L. Jones, Nephl. Funeral services will be held in Salt Lake City at 1:30 p.m. Saturday, Satur-day, after which the body will be brought to Cedar City for burial, and services will be held In the Cedar First Ward Chapel at 2:30 p.m. Monday. |
