Show Richard Williams Dies Of Heart Attack, Funeral Held Monday Funeral services were held In the First Ward Chapel Monday afternoon after-noon for Richard Williams, 80, who died of a heart attack Friday morning. morn-ing. Mr. Williams, who until the past few years had engaged in farming farm-ing and stock raising, had been about town attending to his usual business Thursday, he was stricken 111 at 1 a.m. Friday and died at 5:30 ajn. Mr. Williams was born at Aber-dare, Aber-dare, Wales, on November 12, 1863, a son of Evan and Mary Jane Williams, Wil-liams, and came to Utah with his family in 1879, when they became converts to the LDS church. Soon after reaching Utah he came to Cedar Ce-dar City and had resided here since. Upon his arrival in Cedar City he worked In the iron and coal mines, and at old Iron Town neai Pinto, after which he entered the livestock business and continued in that business until retiring a few years ago. He was an active church worker and held various positions in Sunday School and Priesthood organizations. Also active in civic affairs he served two terms as City Councilman, and was also one of the Founders of the Branch Nor mal School. On April 22, 1891 Mr. Williams married Jesse Williams, who survives sur-vives him. Also surviving are four sons and daughters, J. Urie and Richard Williams, Jr., Cedar City; Mrs. Mary W. Thorley, of Ogden, and Mrs. Mayne W. Lombardl. of Salt Lake City, and one sister, Mrs. Jane W. Hunter, of Cedar City. The funeral services were con ducted by Bishop William Snow of the Fifth Ward, and Included the following program: Organ music by Mrs. Mclba Sargent. Sar-gent. Invocation by Charles R. Hunter. Vocal solo, "Farewell," by Myles Walker. "' Talk by H. H. Lunt. Vocal duet. "In The Oarden," by Chauncey Macfarlane and Bert Carpenter. Talk by Samuel F. Leigh. Closing remarks by Bishop Snow. Closing song, "Lead Me Bently Home," by a mixed quartet composed compos-ed of Miss Ruth Corry, Mrs. Maude Halverson, L. C. Miles, and Myles Walker. Accompanist for all musical numbers was Mrs. Beth Leigh. Benediction by Frank- Armstrong. Dedication of the grave by Frank B. Wood. |
