The annual concert for the ' benefit of. the Kearns St. Anne's orphanage proved to be a success in every, way. The first number was "Columbia," by the entire Cecelian chorus of St. Mary's cathedral. Each had an American flag that was waved In time with the music- The next number was the "Dear Little Lit-tle Shamrock," and in an instant every child, raised the beautiful green flag of Ireland. The effect of the white-rrowned white-rrowned chorus, the flags, the green-festooned green-festooned electric cross, made a nic- ture that will long remain in the minds of all present. " The "Potpourri of Irish : Airs," .so skilfully rendered, brougth forth thunderous thun-derous applause. -. .Every number on the programme merits special mention that lack of space prevents. That the concert-was a success is gratifying the clergy and laity alike. The Catholics of this cjty are only called upon once a year to support the orphanage; but to their credit it can be said that they do their duty on this one occasion by try-j try-j ing to make the affair successful. . |
