Probably 200 persons lost their lives and $2,000,000 of property was destroyed de-stroyed in an earthquake that Monday night shook the town of Avellino, fiftv miles east of Naples, Italy, and extended extend-ed with varying severity throughout the provinces of Campania, Basilecata and Calabria. The Pope was notified by the bishop of Avellino of the suffering in that province and at once forwarded funds for relief and a message stating' that his prayers would be with the sufferers. MRS.
