Since its inauguration, inaug-uration, the Cathoiic club of this city is rapidly growing in membership and popularity. The meetings are well at-le-nc'ed and the musie-al and literary entertainments given by the club every week arc much appreciated by the citizens citi-zens of the Jmelter City. Through the generosity of a well known citizen, i the sum of $100. has been donated to i equip the gymnasium of the club with all the necessary apparatus used in physical development. The appliances have beM?n ordered and will be in place within a short time. One of the popular features of the club is ladies' day, which will be hereafter here-after on Thursday of each week. During Dur-ing that day the cluS will be thrown open to the ladies ar.d in the evening there will be a line literary and musical entertainment. On Thursday evening, in lilion to the musie-al programme, a t-iy spirited debate was given on the following cpuestion: "Resolved, That women should enjoy the same political po-litical rights as men." Messrs. T. D. I'iynn, Malone. Kelly, Walsh and O'Loary undertook to defend the affirmative af-firmative side of the question and champion the cause of women's rights. Messrs. McCaffrey, Owens, Foley. Murphy Mur-phy and Clark ppoke on the negative sid. Several ladies also participated In the discussion, and to put it mildly, they "made things hum" .in their denunciation denuncia-tion of that tyrant, man. The debate from the beginning to the onrt waivinnst interesting, and the dif- TOT - ferent speakers were warmly ap-plauded. ap-plauded. $ Division No. 1. A. O. H., met at Hibernian Hi-bernian hall on Tuesday evening. There was a large attendance of members and several important matters were discussed at the meeting. At the Sunday evening services of t. Paul's. .Rev. Father McCourt, who-Is who-Is a very polished speaker, delivered a nost impressive sermon on the Sacred Heart before a large congregation. Tike interior of the chapel attached ;o St. Ann':1 Hospital is being newly decorated and frescoed throughout. When the work is completed the chapel yill present a very neat and pleasing appearance. . There was a very pleasant surprise party at the residence of M. F. Mc-irath, Mc-irath, 609 West Park avenue, on Sun. :ay evening. Cards and music served to entertain, and in addition a delightful delight-ful lunch was served. Mary Kathaleen, the 13-months-old daughter of Mrs. James Lahith, who 's visiting her parents, Mr. and Mrs. James Sheehy of this city, died on I Monday from spinal meningitis. The Tuneral took place from St. Paul's Church on Tuesday afternoon. i Rev. Father Follet. the esteemed and popular pastor of St. Paul's Church, left during the week for a six weeks' vacation to recuperate his health. Rev. Father Pauwelyn of Miles City will ict as pastor during the absence of F.i 1 her Pollet. The feast of the purification known as Candlemas was observed Saturday-last Saturday-last in both Catholic churches with more than usual pomp and ceremony. At each church mass was celebrated at S o'clock rm that morning. The blessing of candles occurred before the celebration of mass. An unusually large number received holy communion. commun-ion. At 7:,10 thif evening there will be benediction of the blessed sacrament. The feast of St. Blase and- the blessing of threats was celebrated in both churches Sunday with mass at S o'clock. |
