The management in- tends to sink the No. 3 shaft to the ore. It will be timbered and be made the permanent workings. Work on the Mercur Gold Production companys property is progressing. It no doubt has one of the best prospects in Mercur. Several Eastern buyers have been In camp the last few days looking for good propositions. The Heela has resumed work and will now push along for the ore bodies. Bad air in the Seals drove the men out a few days ago, but arrangements have been perfected so there will be no trouble in the future. Mr. Andrew, superintendent of the Hillside, reports the work now being done by the contractors, Hunt & Riley, as showing up that property in good shape. His assays show good values. No doubt this will be one of the large producers of Mercur before winter. Jack Davis of the Annie is in town. He purchased the lease on the opera-hous- e and saloon fixtures of J. C. Wilcox, and will run the place, dividing his time between the mine and the opera-hous- e. Mr. C. E. Hudson of Windsor & Hud- son was in camp Monday. He visited their property, the Buckeye, near Sunshine. George St. Clair has made another shipment from the Chloride Point. The Northern Light is making regular shipments. It is now running a tunnel to get under the gold vein, when we expect to see a mill go up near Lion Hill. C. M. McEntire, superintendent of the Little King, will let a contract for a shaft on their property in a few days. Mercur Mercury: A wonderfully large amount of ore is being opened up in the Sacramento mine, and the limits of the deposit have in nowise been proven. Mention was made a week or two ago concerning the discovery of a vein about thirty feet above the old workings which now supply the mill with ore. The new deposit is a strong one and the ore averages from $10 to $20 per ton. Below the main tunnel forty-fiv- e feet, another tunnel is being run, also on a large ore body, and a connection is now being run from the lower to the upper tunnels, a distance of seeventy-fiv- e the vein feet, to cross-cand ventilate the mine. The mill is running regularly and saving the values up to 85 or 90 per cent. It Is the intention to at least double the capacity of the plant, the change to be made some time next month or the first of September. At present it takes only about fifteen men to operate the mine and mill, and this is probably the only mine in Utah where the miners break the ore by contract, furnishing it to the mill at so much per ton. They seem to be making good wages under 100-fo- ot ut the arrangement. N A deal was consummated during the week by which C. H. Scheu disposed of a major interest in the La Cigale group of fourteen claims, lying in the western foothills, adjacent to the Omaha group. The purchasers are Boston people, and the price named comprises a big sum of money, $10,000 of which was paid in cash. The Glencoe property has again re Eureka Democrat: The Eureka Hill property is fast getting under full shutheadway again after a thirty-da- y down on account of the extensive addition made to the mill. About seventy-fiv- e men have already been put' on at the mine, and this force will be more than doubled as soon as the final adjustment of the mill plant is completed. This placing of forty stamps to the former plant has been a work of considerable magnitude, and in some respects equal to building a new mill of that capacity, but it has been pushed forward with a large force of experienced mechanics until now the management is about ready to throw on the belting that will turn the shafting and drop 100 stamps, or over forty tons of metal, with each revolution of the s. It is understood that some 300 men will be employed at mine and mill when this great property gets In full operation. Sinking the main shaft continues at the Gemini, which Is now fifty feet below the 1000 level, and will be carried on to the 1200. The ore bodies on the 1000 are proving of vast extent and of a uniform good grade. A force of about sixty-fiv- e men are employed in and about the mine, which gives the hill in that locality a very business-lik- e appearance. The shipment from the mine the preceding vreek was thirteen cars, aggregating about 340 tons, and this tonnage it is expected will be duplicated the present week. The working shaft on the Southern Eureka is now down sixty feet, and the ground looks very favorable for mineral. Col. Patrick and associates are so cam-shaft- encouraged by the favorable outlook that they have put three eight-hou- r shifts on the shaft and will carry the work of development forward with all possible dispatch. The South Swansea shaft is now down 365 feet, and sinking will continue. They expect to have their new steam hoist completed and ready to operate by the first of next month. Tintic Miner: Shipments from the district for the week are as follows: nearly 200 feet of sloping ground, and as the upraise passed through some fine ore bodies the property will be in shape, to work from twenty to twenty-fiv- e men and make a large output. The management, however, is not inclined to force production at the ruling prices for lead and silver, and may not materially increase operations until later in the season. In the Red Wing, Markham gulch, a sixteen-inc- h streak is showing, about which marvelous stories are retailed. An assay is said to have shown 61 per cent copper, and the ore carries native copper. The Red Wing tunnel is a few hundred feet above and the right of the Julia Dean and on the same vein. Great activity prevails among the lease and new properties of Markham gulch. Fifteen or twenty outfits are at work, and new tents and camps dot the hillsides. Summit County. Park Reoord: The Records article last week on the promising nature of the country between the Ontario No. 3 and Dutch canyon, is already attracting considerable attention, and inquiries have been received for details of the country, embracing the most promising prospects, character, dip and formation of the country rock, and what the real chances are for finding a good mine. The Inquiries have been answered, and the writer stands ready to furnish authentic information concerning any feature of the country un- der question, and is satisfied than any information given will be borne out by the most rigid investigation that can be given that section by the most competent expert in the country.
