Bingham Bulletin: The closing down of the Old Jordan and Galena mill for a fortnight has made a material shrinkage in the months shipments. It is steadily improving, and gives every indication of developing into a valuable property. The Galena mill started up Monday and is after a two weeks shut-downew. is like It running treating over 100 tons per day, and is said to have greater capacity. This has been a hard week on ore teams, and it is a pity to work them at all while the roads are in their present horrible condition. The shipments of the Dalton and Lark have been reduced over one-hal- f, and from other properties in like proportion or altogether. It. J. Gibson has bonded the Butcher Boy mine, and will commence operations immediately. The Bulletin has within the past ten days heard of no less than six good strikes in new properties one that will cause a sensation but is under promise not to give them away until certain apex birds of prey have been clipped or shot and other details attended to. The most important work now in progress at the Old Jordan and Galena is a drain tunnel to connect the Galena shaft with the old Niagara tunnel. It will be 1400 feet in length entire drainage, including the Niagara, nearly 2500 feet. It is to tap the shaft at 300 feet depth, and will deliver water from thence at the mill within thirty feet of surface. As the water supply of the mill is now pumped from the shaft, the utility and importance of the tunnel is obvious. Manager Holden has a great head. ss n, Piute County. Reports from the latter property are that a four-inc- h streak of ore has been encountered on the Belle of Marysvale claim, picked samples from which assay very high. In the Mountain Chief mine, south of Marysvale, an eighteen-inc- h vein has been encountered that averages $60 in gold and silver. A tunnel is being driven to tap the main vein. Dalton. At the annual of the Dalton Mining company meeting steps were taken looking to the construction of a wire tramway from the mine to the Bully Boy and Webster mill, thie owners of the latter having offered to treat the ore and save 87 per cent of the values. Superintendent De Witt predicted that the mine would become a great producer should tunnel No. 1 or No. 2 be extended to the vein. Mr. Rognon submitted a report upon the condition of the property when he init. The new vein unspected covered has been opened inrecently six places, and is from two to five feet in width, samples of the ore assaying from $41.57 to $401 in gold and silver. A carload of shipping ore has been taken out. The following officers and directors were elected at the meeting: Presi dent, F. A. Druehl; E. vice-preside- nt, directors. Weber County. Ogden Standard: S. W. Cragun of Pleasant View brought to the Standard office today some fine specimens of copper ore from the Last Chance mine, in which he is interested. This mine is situated near the summit of Ben Lomond, peak, north of Ogden. This mine was located last summer and development work was commenced, but winter came on and delayed work until spring. Active work will be commenced as soon as the snow goes off. Assays made from surface ore run from 13 to 32 per cent in copper, $3 in gold and about twelve ounces in silver. The ledge from which this was taken is fully thirty feet wide where it crops out. Mr. Cragun says that this lead will prove a big one and that wonderful things will be heard from the locality of the Last Chance. The quality of the ore is similar to that found at Butte and Anaconda. Selectman Wade is interested with Mr. Cragun, also several parties from Ogden valley. Little Mountain, in the western part of a mining excitement during the past week. The district has for years been known to contain mineral and was prospected and considerable development work done twenty years ago, but the ore was then considered too of 'Weber county, has been the scene low-gra- de for profitable operation. Recent discoveries of ore that assayed $8 to $12 caused the present excitement, and the whole country has been located, the claims being four deep in some localities. The formation is lime and the ore is described as being just the same as the Mercur ore. Sanpete County. Manti Sentinel: There is still but lit- tle excitement in relation to the gold claims, but there is nothing to discourage those who have commenced operations. The ledge is a kind of red talc and can be followed for miles, and all along assays have been made, showing from a trace to $8 or $9 per ton. The Red Bird claim, owned by J. J. Taylor, has shown a little better than some, starting with a trace it has increased to $4.98. Most of the others show an increase as they go down. There are about twenty or thirty promising claims located already. In Gunnison there is considerable excitement, and pieces of rock have been discovered that assay very but no body of the mineral-bearin- g heavy, rock has been discovered so far, although considerable has been found. Last week Mr. Gost of Park City came to Gunnison in the interest of R. C. IDAHO. 9 has proceeded with the greatest, harmony, except in the choice of a secretary, This has resulted in installing John Hunter In the office as temporary secretary for thirty days. Members of the board who ought to know say that the selection of Hunter was meant to be permanent. Others have intimated that this action was simply taken to kill off Capt. Gunn, who was the most prominent candidate for the position. n Capt. Gunn is a Populist orator, having twice made the race for Congress from this State. Like all public men, he has warm personal friends and some enemies. He is an old Colorado miner, and his strong recommendation is his acquaintance with the mining sections of the State. His friends say that the contest will reopen at the end of thirty days. Plummer and Howe were absent at the first meeting and their attendance when the matter comes up again may make some well-know- change. There is a feeling among some of the directors that the Exchange should have the services of an outside expert, and this may result in bringing in a new man. The Exchange has been most fortunate in the selection of a board of directors and a more representative body could hardly have been picked out. There are four mining men on the board, though all are more or less interested in mines. Capt. Plummer is manager of the De Lamar mine. K. P. Plowman is an e Boise Basin placer miner, with thirty years experience, and put the first mill up in the Neal district. Henry Dorman is mining at Willow Creek, where he owns some promising properties. Frank Howe is well known' in Colorado, and in this State from his connection with the Yellow Jacket. He is now manager of the Hidden Treasure at Neal and has been in New York and the East the past month on mining business. Frank Coffin and Dan Steen are hardware merchants. Coffin back in the GOS was a placer miner and is now extensively interested around Atlanta. Steen made his money mining in Lemhi county, and is now erecting the first quartz mill of which the city can boast. John Haines is a member of the leading real estate firm of W. E. Pierce & Co., and David Falk of the Falk Mercantile company. The legral Profession is represented on the board by James Fremont Wood and Orville E. Hawley, Jackson, all thoroughly alive to the importance of the mining industry in the development of the State. Mr. Hawley was the unanimous choice of the board for president and Mr. Jackson was given the chairmanship of probaly the most important committee, the one on advertising and development. The board perfected its organization by the election of Frank R. Coffin and James H. Bush treasurer Mr. Bush is of the Capital State bank. The event in mining circles this week was the transfer of O. E. Jacksons interest in the Black Hornet to Dan M. Steen. It is understood the consideration was $5000. Correspondence Mining Review. Boise, Ida., Feb. 2, 1S96. The Idaho Mining Exchange is now fairly at work and promises all that its friends have predicted.
