Tin tic Miner: Shipments from the district for the week are as follows: From the Bullion-Bec- k mine, 25 carloads ore; from the Bullion-Bec- k mill, 5 carloads concentrates; from the 12 carloads ore; from the Eureka Hill mine, 4 carloads ore; from the Eureka Hill mill, 12 carloads concentrates; from the Gemini, 4 carloads ore; from the Ajax, 10 carloads ore; from the Mammoth mine, 6 carloads ore; from the Mammoth mill, 11 carloads concentrates; from the Utah, 5 carloads ore; from the Sioux mill, 5 carloads concentrates; from the Swansea, 7 carloads ore; from the Four Aces, 1 carload ore; from the Dragon Iron mine, 2 carloads ore daily. The extremely low price of lead and the resulting order for closing down the Mingo smelter at Sandy took effect in Tintic this week by the practical shut-dow- n of the Sioux and Utah mines, which took place Monday. Only about ten men are now employed in the tw'o mines, and we are advised that the mill will stop running as soon as the run of Ajax ore is completed. We are unable to hear of any other companies who propose to follow the example of the Sioux and Utah, but the fear is general that others may be forced to close. Nicholas and Joseph Treloar have leased the Sioux mine, and Dan McLeod has made similar arrangements with the Utah. This insures the continuation of the work on both properties, and as there are large bodies of ore in sight, the leasers ought to make a good thing out of them. Manager J. W. Green of the Buckeye advises us that he has made a new ore strike on the 200 level of that property. Assays of the ore show values of 88 ounces silver, 65 per cent lead and $13 gold. Manager Green also states that he will be able to send out a good shipment of high grade ore in a fewT days. As to the rumor of a contemplated assessment on Buckeye stock, he states that so far as he knows no such action is contemplated by the board of directors. Scarcity of water is causing considerable anxiety both at the Eureka Hill and Bullion-Bec- k mills. An average of about only forty stamps can be run at the Eureka Hill, and it is currently reported that it will be necessary to lay off one shift at the Beck, although we are unable to positively verify the Both companies are industriously prospecting at Homansville, and we understand a daily improvement is noCen-tennial-Eure- ka, on the Elmwood group. The shaft on the Boss Twreed is now down 150 feet from the tunnel level, 225 feet from the surface. The shaft has followed the vein all the way down, the vein at the bottom being from three to four feet wide ,and have taken out about 200 tons of ore which is now on the dump. A. R. Owing to the tightness of money, the Putnam mine was closed down on September 1st, to await the- verdict of the American people regarding the future of silver.
