The local stock market is still in a waiting mood, and in this respect it is not unlike all of the rest of the speculative markets throughout the country. The adjournment of the exchange has, of course, accentuated the usual midsummer dullness and tended to discourage trading. The market may naturally be expected to improve next month, and with the exchange in session, a period of greater activity will set in. In the meantime the market offers some splendid opportunities for speculation, many of the stocks having dropped to such a level that buyers are certain to realize handsomely on their investments. The holders are beginning to understand that this is a poor time to sell, and the offerings are mainly confined to those who are forced to liquidate. Sales of Ajax were made last wreek at S5 cents, but it has since fallen off to about 80. The fine new hoist sales at about will be in operation in about thirty days, and the output of the mine will be greatly increased. Eagle and East Golden Gate wrere quiet and unchanged.
