"We were the underdogs when we played in Saudi but we won the base championship out there too," said 34th FS coach Juliana "JulesHarley" Adair. "I'm glad we have been in tight games, otherwise teams can tend to stop playing their best." Adair's teammate Chris "X-Ma- Cross agreed, "It was good for us to be in the losers' bracket because we were motivated." True to their words, the 34th FS delivered under pressure. They swept up first place in the losers' bracket then plunged into a battle for the championship with the 649th MUNS. In match one, the first game started with a victory by MUNS, "Red" Walker. "Jules brought us together as a team. She was our center. She was always telling us not to get down and that she would pound us if we didn't hustle," Walker continued. "We have always been a really good offensive team, but our defense was never as good as it was this year. I attribute that to her." Adair said her team's victorious volleyball seasons can probably be attributed to the fact that most of them are pilots and are used to reviewing a lot of tactical things during debriefings, which makes them fast thinkers. "That's what we were doing with the games too reviewing our tactics . We made our team aware of our weak points and tried to make adjustments for them," Adair said. Adair also said that since most of her teammates play several different sports they are able to pick things up more quickly and easily. "Our team is outstanding, we were undefeated last year and dominated the league this year," said 649th MUNS coach Ross Backe. "We have very good players, but they don't overshadow the team. Although we can block with our offense is definitely our strength." The 34th FS played eight straight games Thursday night. They had to win two matches to seize the title since they came out of the losers' bracket. Each match included three games. "We wanted to win, that's the bottom line," Cross said. "It was my last time playing because it's my third year with the 34th FS. The first year we lost in the finals and the second year we were TDY and couldn't play. We wanted to get a win before we all go our separate ways." "This year we also got short notice to go TDY, but the gym staff was awesome. They changed the schedule and made it happen. Then we were night flying this week so we almost didn't get to play again," said Adair.
