Show 12 Page March 26, HILL TOP TIMES 1976 On Space Program Speak ' NASA Officials To Benefits to the nation from the U.S.'s space program will be discussed by two officials of the National Aeronautics and Space Administration at a 6:30 p.m. dinner at the Salt Lake Hilton Hotel, April 23. The event will be "A Salute to NASA" sponsored by the Ute Chapter of the Air Force Association. Speaking will be Dr. George M. Low, NASA deputy administrator, and Navy Capt. Gene, Cernan, an astronaut. Introducing them will be Senator Frank E. Moss . The senator recently received the 1976 Goddard Memorial Trophy from the CD-Uta- h) First applicant to sign up for the 1976 Hill AFB rodeo queen contest is Laurie Hardy, dependent daughter of Larry and Millie Hardy, Directorate of Plans and Programs. Ed Griener, rodeo queen chairman looks on as Miss Hardy relates her biographical information on the form. Since she entered, five more women have applied. Mr. Griener states that the contest is open for applications from now until May 4 and is open to all women, ages 17 to 26, married or single, civilian or military, employee or dependent on Hill AFB. Captain Cernan was a pilot on the Gemini 9 mission, a backup pilot for Gemini 12 and backup lunar module pilot for Apollo 7. On Apollo 10, Captain Cernan was lunar modul pilot and was backup spacecraft commander for Apollo 14. He made his third space as flight spacecraft commander of Apollo 17, the last scheduled manned HHMIIIMIIiaiMIII 9, minutes were spent on the moon's surface. Dr. Low, born in Vienna, Austria, came to the U.S. in 1940 and served in the American Army during World War II. He received his B.A. degree in aeronautical engineering in Rensselaer from Polytechnic Insitutue in Troy, N.M. and a master's degree in aeronautical engineering in 1948 1950. He received the Honorary Degrees of Doctor of Engineering from Rennsselaer and Doctor of Science from the University of Florida. Dr. Low joined the National Advisory Committee for Aeronautics and transferred to NASA in Oct. 1958 as chief of manned space flight. He was responsible for the Mercury and Gemini programs. In Feb. 1964, he transferred to NASA's Manned Spacecraft Center in Houston, Tex., as deputy director. 6:30 p.m. Good Friday, April 16 (A day of fast and abstinence) 15-min- Red Cross Advanced Life Saving Course A Red Cross Advanced Life Saving course will be offered to all Hill personnel from 7 to 9 p.m. March 30 at the Hill AFB k course is open to persons 15 Swimming Pool.
