Other companies issue a card good at many stores, airlines, hotels. The card holder is almost always responsible for purchases made by him, or persons authorized by him. A father took out a credit card for his son who bought many things the father refused to pay for. A court held both responsible on the basis of terms on the application form. Even an unsolicited card sent through the mail may contain conditions. If you use the card, you have by that use accepted the conditions. . Prologue or Portent so goes the inscription "What is past is prologue" into chisled the granite of the National Archives in And the year 1968, fortunately or unD.C. Washington, fortunately, is now a part of the past. Whether their place in the events of the year will, in fact, take the prologue of future history, only time will tell. Certainly 1968 was an eventful year. In the short span of its 12 months, we saw transpire events of national and international significance. The events of 1968 could, and no doubt will, fill many volumes. The importance of these events will be studied, discussed and debated by men for generations to come. If the events of the past year are, in fact, to become a prologue a foreshadowing of greater events to come we must all learn from the events of the past year and put this knowledge to full use. We must learn from our successes and our failures to help our nation grow and prosper fulfilling the dreams of countless past generations of Americans to make this country the bulwark of democracy and freedom, where every citizen has the opportunity to grow and succeed to the limits of his ability and a nation from which the shining light of freedom and dignity will light the dark corners of the world. (AFPS) Most credit cards say you are liable for purchases until the issuer get written notice of the card's loss or theft. Usually when the card gets lost and someone else uses it, the courts rule the card holder is responsible. If the merchant is negligent in not identifying or checking up on the unauthorized user of the card, the merchant bears the loss. Keep a record of your credit card numbers. If one is lost or stolen, notify the company by immediately registered mail or telegram. New Year's Resolutions At this time of year, most people traditionally make a lengthy list of New Year's resolutions, based on mistakes of the past and goals of the future. These resolutions are sometimes honored from two minutes to as long as a lifetime depending on the of the person making them! Generally, these pledges are made with sincerity and good intentions, only to be broken in a moment of weakness How many smokers, for example, have kicked the "habit" on New lears morning, only to light up a cigarette that afternoon? Since human nature is what it we usually shrug off such a moment with a sheepish grin is,and vow to try again next year. Certainly most re: .utions are quickly forgotten but manv yutus mm gums oecome richly fulfilled. In reflecting back upon 1968 with all its political anxieties, social turmoil, and scientific achievement which was climaxed on Christmas Day in the flight of Apollo 8, one can see the vast greatness of which man is capable. Certainly the mission of Hill Air Force Base, though not as important perhaps as circling the moon, enjoys a place in the exemplification of this greatness. Hill is changing and improving in stride Alston with the changes of modern time and the needs of its employees Some of the areas of change in the physical make-u- p of the base during 1968 included the new library, the new theater, the beautification of the west area, various road improvements, a military car wash, renovation of the Offficers' Club, a military and civilian picnic area, and other beautification and maintenance projects such as the painting of all frame buildings. -- These perhaps are indirect in their of the base's total mission, but are of equal importancesupport as they bolster the morale and pride of its employees. Among the projects for the new year are the construction of a new programmed Pass and Identification Building at the south gate entrance, continued construction of additional sidewalks and curbing in the 1200 area, golf course improvements which will include glass inclosure of the and the porch construction of a half-wa- y point rest facility, and continued overall beautification and repair of base facilities. Each of these projects, just as those completed, will cause some inconvenience and annoyance at times and we would tike to extend our appreciation for the cooperation we have received during the accomplishmentpast of such projects. Inconvenience breeds the appreciation of we often take for granted and many times forget. things The statement, T.rnigs iappreciated are things worked for," is an old phrase often forgotten in the hustle of times. It is my hope that 1969 will bring to you and yours the righteous desires of your heart and that the strength to work for that which requires work might also be yours. Best wishes for 1969! Figure Out Life's Meaning By Chaplain (Maj.) Verlin E. While this is an impressive achievement, I want to emphasize again that nothing short of 100 per cent success can be acceptable." ( Secretary of Defense Clark M. Clifford. Dec. 31, 1963.) Simply that hopelessness and despair in our lives is the result of lives that have lost their sense of meaning. Whv are you living? For what purpose? What do you live for moat? What is it that lends the most meaning to your existence? If you answer these questions for yourself you will find (pinpoint) that which motivates you or you will discover you are not sufficiently motivated or you may discover that that which drives you is too shallow or too lofty (unrealistic) thereby gaining needed corrective insight into your life. A suggested solution to rid ourselves of the apathy within us and to generate us to positive and creative action is to first change our attitude. We are constantly searching for what we can get from life, happiness, security, love and meaning. The change in our attitude comes when we no longer expect anything from life but on the other hand ask, "What does life expect from me?" Life asks questions of us each day of our existence and give us tasks to perform. Most of our despair results from our refusal to answer life's questions and to perform its tasks. For example: Life asks "Do you want a clean home?" If you answer yes, life says, "empty the trash." Let u all determine the questions and task life is confronting us with in 1969. If we act resjionsibly, much of our despair and hopelessness v. ill disappear. |
