We can do this by seeing our unit voting officer, applying for a ballot and making an effort to keep informed on the issues and candidates. Whether our candidate wins or loses, our vote will have proven one very important aspect of the American way of life that the machinery of democracy still works. We can be sure of this because we helped make it work. This hobby involves gasoline and gunpowder. Gasoline being used to propel the family chariot to the favorite hunting grounds. Gunpowder to shoot the game and sometimes other hunters. The favorite hunting grounds generally are located furthest away from our population center?. V get to these d hunting grounds often means traveling on highways, country roads and unimproved mountain trails. All of these roads have their hazards and each year take their toll of lives and property. When the hunting trip is and the happy hunter returns in a few days with his game. Each year, for example, thousands of hunters invade the Utah hills in quest of deer. Each year we read the obituaries of those who failed to take necessary precautions to return safely. Some had heart attacks. Some were accident statistics, killed in automobile accidents. In fact, deaths due to automobile accidents showed a seven per cent rise over 19C2 (43,000 persons were killed in the U.S. last year). Accidents arc thefour leading causes of death, with heart attacks being the number one cause. During 1063, 2,200 persons were killed in the nation from firearm accidents up to five per cent over 19G2 figures. Statistics show that gasoline, gunpowder and oftimes alcohol are often hazardous. Yet hunting can be afc when we use common sense. First, be sure you have your hunting permit and know your game laws. ENGLAND Ground Safely Director u - Comment! l You Defend War correspondent Ernie Pyle wrote during World War II that men in combat were sometimes confused about why they were fighting, but knew that at least they were fighting for each other. Why were they fighting for each other? What kind of a future life did they envision for each other? Most of them envisioned a life which would enable a man to choose his own vocation and to develop to his full potential according to his abilities and interests. ,: This is the kind of life we are still striving for. But the success of this way of life depends on more than successful defense of it. It also depends on the responsible practice of it. fnc September d, in-19G- 3 Emotional Stability Needed By Chaplain (Major) Robert E. Mossey Emotional instability and immaturity are two of the worst nuisances that plague people nowadays. They either indicate the inability to withstand a shock to the nerves, or the inability to act as a true adult should act. Many grownups are really children at heart, because they react in a juvenile manner when any pressure is put upon them. A true man must be a rock of dependability because the welfare of a person or a family may depend upon him. If he is flighty, childish or immature he had better do some work on his character and temperament before he falls into danger of inflicting real harm. When a man occupies a place of trust by reason of his presumed skill and training, he can nullify all that trust and confidence if he proves himself undependable. This means a hundred things all rolled into one: being on the jcb with regard to the practice of one's religion, giving God one's best at all times; being on the job with regard to one's duty to family and neighbor, see the image of God in all; being on the jcb with regard to the service or business for the welfare of a nation or a community hinges upon dependable men doing a thorough job. Persons who are emotionally immature or unstable may find a measure of happiness in some way but they are not fit to be leaders. And the world NEEDS Dependable Leaders.
