Going to tage of the three-da- y Bear celebrate at Lake, or the canyon, or Lagoon? Fine! You deserve a last little fling this summer. But before you start out on that little jaunt do some serious thinking about whether you'll be coming back or not. There will be about 460 persons who won't be coming back to their jobs they'll be featured in the nation's obituary columns. There will be thousands of others who'll use their health insurance to pay for painful months in a hospital. There'll be many others nursing broken hearts because of the death of loved ones or because they were the driver who caused an accident. Close to 73 million vehicles will be on the move during the Labor Day weekend, according to a prediction from the National Safety Council. They figure that a new record of 460 persons may die in traffic accidents during the next three days. The only way to guard against tragedy on the highway is for ALL drivers to use EXTREME caution at ALL times. The Council suggested these travel tips for motorists: 1. Be prepared for any traffic emergency, no matter where you are. They point out that during the Fourth of July holiday, half of all fatal accidents occurred within 10 miles of the driver's home. 2. Try to avoid traveling during peak traffic periods. That would be the first 30 hours of the holiday period, and the last 24 hours. 3. Don't drink if you drive. Government Code of Ethics 1.
