At lunch period and rest periods: while they rested from their jobs of cleaning and disassembling airplanes they could all be seen sewing and crocheting on "little things." The ladies, nearly all of whom are .mothers and grandmothers, seemed to get a special eniovment out. of fivinir im tVip layette ior tne young couple. The layette grew and grew until finally it would have even taken care of the situation if the stork doubled up on his delivery. Everything All Set Finally the layette was complete, right down to the safety pins, and so the ladies laid out their handiwork on one of the lunch tables, called in the young father-to-band presented him the layette. The young man was most pleased and grateful. Unaccustomed as he was to the business, he was still sure that this was the most wonderful layette ever. Oldtimers in the "layette business" knew that . e, the collection was exceptional. Some of the items included in the layette were 5 dozen diapers, 7 night gowns, 7 kimonas, 4 dresses and slips, 6 undersirts, 6 sox, C receiving blankets, 6 nursing bottles, 2 knit sweater sets, a large blanket, 4 pair of crocheted booties, and soap, powder and lotion. In addition to all these items, the ladies supplied a basinette, pad and cover and three sheets and pillow cases. One office that displayed outstanding yuletide trimmings was the Administration branch, civilian personnel division, who held a contest for the best decorated desk. Ordinary office desks were transposed into fireplaces,. mantels, and winter wonderlands. Winning display was judged to be the nativity scene prepared by Joyce Jenson above.
