For the first time in 20 years, riders getting off the FrontRunner train had the option of hopping on one of the two Utah Transit Authority Hill AFB routes to head into work. It is now a luxury John Hughes, of West Jordan, is excited about after spending the last five years riding FrontRunner, walking over to State Street, hopping onto a bus that got him to the West Gate entrance on 650 West, then spending 15 minutes walking nearly a mile to get to his work at L-3 in the Trainer Software Support Center. "This is awesome because it drops me off 100 yards from my work," Hughes said. "I like taking the train and bus because I don't have to deal with traffic, and I can sleep, read, text or play on my tablet." April 17, 2014 SENIOR AIRMAN JUSTYN M. FREEMAN/U.S. Air Force U.S. Air Force Lt. Col. Thomas Wolfe, Commander of the 388th Operations Support Squadron at Hill Air Force Base, signals to a UH-60 Blackhawk, 211th Aviation Squadron, West Jordan, during the Lone Survivor exercise, Utah Test and Training Range on April 12. The Lone Survivor exercise is carried out for the training of pilots to sharpen their Survival, Evasion, Resistance, and Escape (SERE) skills with the support of Airmen and Soldiers alike. Utah forces team up for Operation Lone Survivor BY BRYAN MAGANA 419th Fighter Wing Public Affairs AIR FORCE BASE, — Air Force Reserve and National Guard personnel from Utah put their search and rescue skills to the test during a training exercise dubbed "Operation Lone Survivor" in the rocky terrain of Utah's west desert Saturday. Military personnel from the U.S. Air Force Reserve 419th Fighter Wing, Utah Air National Guard 151st Air Refueling Wing, and Utah Army National Guard 211th Aviation Group joined forces to rescue two downed F-16 pilots near the Utah Test and gaining Range. "This exercise is important because we never know what situation we're going to find ourselves in during combat," said Col. Bryan Radliff, 419th FW commander. "Training like this is an opportunity to test our skills together" On the ground, the stranded pilots had a chance to sharpen their skills in Survival, Evasion, Resistance, and Escape, better known as SERE, until help arrived from the A reminder email will go out in a few days to Hill Air Force Base employees who have not yet reported vehicle emissions information into the Air Force Web-based system called ECARS (Employee-Vehicle Certification and Reporting System). The email, from no-reply@apims. af.mil , will contain a link to ECARS where employees will be prompted to enter information about their driving habits on the base. Employees can enter their information anytime at the ECARS link: https://apims.af.mil/apims/ecars. "Every federal employee, even those who carpool with a spouse or others, is required to go into ECARS to comply with this new requirement," said Glenn Palmer, Hill's air quality program manager with the 75th Civil Engineer Group. Employees were sent an email in late January notifying them of a 30-day deadline to enter information in the new system. That deadline was later extended until May 1 in accordance with the memorandum of agreement signed by Air Force Materiel Command and the American Federation of Government Employees Council 214. Palmer said more than 50 percent of base employees have complied with the new requirement. "Those employees who have completed the certification do not need to reenter their vehicle data," he said. "Bottom line — if you don't get the reminder email, you don't need to worry about it." ECARS is part of the Air Force Vehicle Self-Certification Program, which brings the Air Force in compliance with the Clean Air Act, Section 118d.
