Show Hilltop HILLTOP TIMES CFC continues strong because of you, the federal employee BY BRENDA CHRISTY Team Hill 2013 CFC Vice Chairwoman H ello Team Hill and welcome to the 2013 Team Hill Combined Federal Campaign (CFC). It is my pleasure to serve as the vice chairwoman for the 2013 Team Hill Cornbined Federal Campaign. As many of you may know, the mission of CFC is to make it easy, fun and effective for federal employees to support the charities they are passionate about. The CFC has been going strong for over 50 years because of you, the federal employees. It is a partnership between the employee, the federal government and the charitable organizations that benefits all. It is a way to give back to the community or to give to all of the active duty, Reserve and Guard members who are selflessly serving to protect our freedoms, just to name a few. Most importantly, charity helps heal the world. I encourage each and every one of you to consider giving and to make a difference. This year's 2013 CFC season for Hill AFB will run from Oct. 7 through Nov. 18 with the kick-off event scheduled for Oct. 2 at The Landing on Hill AFB. Each year Team Hill raises thousands of dollars for CFC and in order to resume this type of generosity we have encouraged our unit project officers (UPOs) and keyworkers to conduct a 100 percent face-to-face contact, encourage a 23 percent participation rate from our federal employees, and are looking to reach a goal of $1 million in donations. I encourage each of you to consider participation by volunteering and donating for this very worthy cause to support charitable causes in our local communities, throughout the nation and the world. The CFC has over 4,400 charities who really need help — the hungry, the homeless, the sick, the disabled, Combined Federal Campaign children and families in need, and the environment in which we live. Each charity is reviewed on an annual basis and only those that meet high standards earn the right to participate in the campaign. I realize the furloughs which were placed on the civilians of the Department of Defense have caused individuals to rethink their finances and charitable contributions; however, the CFC belongs to you, the federal employee. It is your campaign which enables you to support your passion the way you wish. What's more amazing is that you can do all this for only one dollar ($1) per pay period. That's right, for $1 per pay period you can make a huge difference and support your passion as you see fit. The best part of it all is the fact CFC has made it convenient to give online or by paper form. You can donate through payroll deduction, the most convenient way to give or you can donate by credit/debit card, eCheck, cash or check. Just go to www.intermountaincfc.org to browse through our list of charities and choose your method. If you experience difficulties with the website or have questions that need addressing each unit has UPOs and keyworkers ready to support. This year's theme is "Make it possible." You too can make it possible by making your annual 2013 CFC contribution any way and to whom you choose. Thank you CFC for making it so easy to give, and thank you for your consideration and support of CFC. Get a handle on those nagging financial questions or concerns BY MARY Lou GORNY Hilltop Times editor A series of Lunch and Learn Financial Workshops will begin Sept. 24 at the Airman and Family Readiness Center at 11:30 a.m. and include lunch. A course on getting out of debt will lead off the series with Josh Stout, a financial adviser from Wells Fargo, conducting the class. The series of financial workshops are as follows: Sept 24, Getting Out of Debt Oct. 3, Retirement Planning Oct. 15, Investment Basics: How to Get Started Oct. 28, Debt and Money Management Nov. 5, How to Plan for Your Child's Education The Airman and Family Readiness Center can also provide financial counseling to active duty, military and dependents and sit down one-on-one. Civilians may contact the Employee Assistance Program at 800-222-0364 to set up one-on-one counseling sessions or go online to: www.FOH4YOU. corn. Collette Geiss, Community Readiness Technician, at the Airman and Family Readiness Center, emphasizes that counselors can help individual families come up with biweekly spending plans, advise them on how to reduce their debt, or help them assess whether or not they can reduce their debt before they plan to retire or separate from the military. If their situation warrants it, they can also provide referrals to a nonprofit debt consolidation program. "If it's beyond our scope we will refer them to whoever we think will be able to provide them with assistance," said Collette Geiss, Family Readiness technician. "I see a lot of people come in for help just for making sure they're on track to get out of debt before they leave the military," Geiss said. For more information contact her at 801775-6832 or you may RSVP and register to the main desk by calling 801-777-4681. 3 TIMES Sept. 12, 2013 civilian wellness program to include offering free flu shots to the entire civilian workforce. In 2012, approximately 12,000 civilians participated in the program. Today, civilians not covered by TriCare are urged to contact their private health care providers and get a flu shot.
