Show HILLTOP TIMES 4 H rtimEs Oct. 13, 2011 MEET of our Air Force's future. From page 1 Q: How do you see Total Force Integration working and what needs to be improved? here before? Answer: The 388th FW has a great heritage. It has proven this over the years, and when it comes to providing airpower anytime, the wing has delivered time after time with sustained excellence. Since my last assignment with the wing in 2008, significant progress has occurred in advancing the integration of the 388th and 419th Fighter Wings. While Total Force Integration is still not perfect, we strive to improve this partnership daily, and we progress every day. A: I think Total Force Integration between the 388th and 419th Fighter Wings continues to evolve. To achieve the maximum potential of this "Classic Association" we must completely integrate. This will require strong and engaged leaders to break down barriers, inspire change and make sure we become the best. I'm confident we will continue to improve and capitalize on the active duty and Reserve strengths and experiences of both wings. Q: As command chief, what do you see as your primary role? A: Morale is my No. 1 focus area. The 388th FW has had a challenging year, and we must continue to focus on the positive, correct departures from standards and move forward. We can improve morale in the 388th FW, and it will take proactive and engaged leaders striving toward a common goal. The past is the past so we must move forward and focus on what we have the power to change — the future! A: To be visible and involved, listen to Airmen concerns and resourcing issues, formulate corrective measures, and advise the 388th FW commander and senior wing leadership on viable solutions to improve operations and successfully execute the wing's mission. Q: When you have the opportunity to talk one-onone with Airmen in the wing, what advice do you give them? A: My advice is two-fold; first, be positive and take pride in what you do. Strive to do your best, continue to develop yourself, and never jeopardize your integrity since once it is lost it's very hard to gain back. Secondly, take care of your family and spend time with them. Many of us have sacrificed personal time with loved ones, because we are committed to serving our country. While this is noteworthy, a balance must occur between one's career and personal life. out since there are so many Airmen, both enlisted and officers, who have mentored me throughout my Air Force career. While many were superior in their field, I would also say those less effective were just as important in shaping me as a leader. Learning from others' strengths, weaknesses and failures is very important. Q: What are the most common questions or concerns 388th FW Airmen have for you? A: The most common questions I've been asked are, "How can we get more manpower in our critical AFSCs' since manning is below current authorizations" and, "How can access to equipment in the base gym be improved with the large population it serves?" The concerns typically range from long duty hours, lack of F-16 experienced Airmen in light of Air Force policy changes which integrate maintainers from different airframes, to challenges associated with balancing ops tempo with training. Q: What should you be focused on with regard to the future of the 388th FW Airmen? Q: Is there anything you would like to add? A: It is my pleasure to serve as the 388th FW command chief. I'm committed to serving the men and women of this wing, and my goal is to inspire teamwork and a sense of pride toward the common objective of becoming the best fighter wing in Air Combat Command. Q: Who has had the most significant influence on shaping you as a leader? A: I can't say there is just one person who stands . iW8155177:5 147. I was amazed with the impact they had moving the unit toward mission success. I won't say I knew I was always going to become a chief; however, I was always determined to do the best job I could. . 11ust or Will(with support for minor or disabled child Medical Power of Attorney (covets your minor children) temporary gpardian to handle edumtion) Durable Povwr of Attorney(autholizes MENTION THIS AD AND RECEIVE 10 WI NGS Q: What will be the next step in improving quality of life for 388th FW Airmen? A: The next step in improving quality of life is through deliberate Airmen development. Some may ask what this has to do with quality of life, but to me, it's fairly simple. The more proficient Airmen are, the faster they will get the job done with a higher degree of quality. This can then equate to time off.
