She was made commander of the 27th Combat Support Group at Can- non, AFB, N.M. She is the only woman colonel in a command position in TAC. She is in charge of support functions including civil engineering, personnel, and security police units. Colonel Turner enlisted in the Air Force in 1955. Her first seven years were spent as a staff writer for base newspapers in Massachusetts, Louisana and Puerto Rico. In 1962, she went to Lackland AFB, Texas, where she earned her commission through Officers Training School. Since then, she served many tours of duty and achieved a bachelor of science degree from Florida State University and a master's degree in business management from Southwest Texas State University.
