The material, especial ly prepared for the Hill Top Times, Is from the "Management Course for Air Force Supervisors' con ducted at the base by the Employee Career and Development Branch.) The subject of good supervision has been brought to everyone's attention repeatedly, for it is an important one. So important, in fact, that the Air Force, as well a all private industry, is continuously .making an effort to keep everyone well informed about the practices which constitute good su pervision. In a world fraught with discussions and thoughts of science and scientific equipment, one is apt to forget that people still remain the most adaptable, the most useful, and the most IMPORTANT resource in the world. Almost unbelievable accomplishments in technological development tend to focus our attention on material things. Headlines about automation, electronic computers, atomic, power, and the like, seem to detract from the importance of manpower. We cannot afford to apply good management techniques to material, to tools, and to . equipment, then fail to properly manage the human element. The Supervisor's Job If anyone were to seek a single word to describe the job given to the supervisor, he might well find "diversity"; for the supervisor is called upon to think and act in terms of many different jobs, not tost one. He is responsible for the selec tton, induction, training, produc pvity, safety, morale, and advancement of his workers.
