'6SC s A Step in the Right Direction The recent AMC letter which reappraises maximum utilization of employee potential is a most welcome tool for today s management In emphasizing and explaining the two divisions of the Incentive Award Program, it spells out the differences between suggestions and sustained performance and lays great stress oh rewards for tangible savings. When we stop to think of our responsibilities for stewardship of the defense dollar, it is sobering to note that 44 of an annual award expenditure within AMC was for sustained superior performance; an increase of l(i't over the previous year!!! We at OOAMA must join hands with AMC in restricting cash awards to those indicating unusual merit. Those tangible savings brought out in the suggestions will always speak for themselves. Throttle and the Bottle Holiday drivers were warned today that glasses have a dangerous effect on vision. That is, if they've been emptied several times. The warning comes from the National Safety Council, which says the throttle and the bottle are big factors in the holiday traffic toll. Social drinkers, because of the stepped up festivity of the season, present a greater traffic hazard than at any other time of the year, the Council said. In a special study of ."01 fatal Christmas holiday accidents, which killed i0!) persons, the Council found drinking drivers were involved in ." per cent of the accidents. At other times of the year they are involved in about 80 per cent. Men were driving in 04 per cent of the accidents studied. In 00 per cent of the accidents only one person was killed. Almost four out of five victims were men and these were mostly drivers. The most common type of accident was collision between two or more cars. Next in order were pedestrian, and fixed 'ob ject collisions. The most common driver action contributing to fatal accidents was driving on the wrong side of the .road or in the center "of the road. if ailure to observe a signal or stop sign was second. Mechanical fail ure or tire blowouts were mentioned in only four of the accidents studied. in launching its annual satety campaign, the Council said the nation may have safer and happier holidays this year if drivers will exert a little extra care and caution. non-collisio- n, 10 YEARS AGO (6 DEC. 1947) The United States Air Force first swept-win- g jet fighter, the Ai--.nas completed its initial test llights at Muroc Air Base, Calif Designed to attain sneeds of more than ;m milp wr Vimir Vio yp.vi is the first operational fighter with swent-bac- k winsrs to flv in this country.
