Smith of 374 East Center Street, Bountiful, began his service when he enlisted in the Navy in 1928. He was retired with the grade of chief warrant officer after serving for 20 years as an aircraft mechanic. He was trans ferred to Hill AFB in May, 1952 from the Naval Air Station, Ala meda, California. During World War II he served aboard the USS Lexington and the USS Boxer in the Pacific Theatre. Robert P. Schroeder of 132 Arsenal Way, Clearfield, began his civil service career at Wright Field, Ohio, in 1927 as a civilian employee of the old Army Signa! Corps Flying Branch. During the past 25 years he has served at Patterson Field, Ohio; Macon Georgia; Hq. AMC at Dayton Ohio; USAFE, Weisbaden, Ger many, and Hill AFB. He has wit nessed most of the pioneering of modern military aviation. He transferred to Hill from Germany in September of this year. With full knowledge of the risks involved, Captain Barney held his course in order to obtain this .vital intelligence information f or the United Nations Command. Upon reaching his turning point, Captain Barney altered course thus losing the enemy fighter and guided his aircraft safely home." The citation for the Air Medal states that "Captain Barney displayed exceptional professional skill and devotion to duty while participating in the air defense of the United Nations over enemy held territory as a 'navigator. Captain Barney and his wife, Marjorie June, are now residing at 2172 Monroe Blvd., Ogden. He was formerly from Atlanta, Ga, intense, Smith and Schroeder, General Tillery said, "It is with great pride that we honor our 25 year em ployees.
