Show HILL TOP T MES Page 8 Friday, Junq Ruth Sends Regards Tf SPECIAL I KOTICE TO ALL PENNEY'S PORTRAIT STUDIO OFFERS I I With Joe Jones Most of the preliminaries are behind us now, and we're cleaning up fly rods, boots and the rest of the gear in anticipation of the general opening of the trout season on 16 June. We took a final fling at the catfish on 26 June along with Lou Wirth and Burdelle Lumkuil, and managed to string 56 of them before being blown off the lake (Utah Lake). As for the trout picture for the opening, we frankly admit that, we are a bit stumped. Most local streams are high and rocky which makes for very negative results. We're tempted to go along with the guys who are maintaining, that the best results will be obtained by seeking out those lakes which open on 16 June, and which, of course have some trout in them. Then we remember last year LESS THAN 5 MINUTES from . HILL AIR DASE SIGNAL CAFE at Layton FAST SERVICE! COMPLETE DINNER FROM 65o Sandwiches - Pastries Fountain BREAKFAST SERVED FROM 8 A.M. Open UntU 10 P. M. Dally and Sunday. - Plenty of Parking Space - mat m when, on the opening, we hit Reservior along with a few thousand other people. The fish are there without a doubt. Later in the year we had some husky evidence to prove that fact. Nonetheless, we failed to see a single trout caught on the opening in fact we didn't even see so much as a single chub captured. That's the first opening within our memory when we've failed to at least bring a few home. We know, though, that plenty of you guys and gals have some favorite spots lined up, and undoubtedly water conditions will be such that at least some of the spots notably the smaller streams at high elevations will produce some openingthrills. The best we can -day wish is that each of you find one of those spots. GOOD LUCK! Service Tests Are Successful on Hot Asphalt Dispenser Service tests on a new hot Service everywhere in Utah and Idaho asphalt dispenser at Hill Air Force Base show that the machine is saving the taxpayer almost 40 dollars a day. The machine, used in the manu facture of paper water proof bags and liners, cost the Air Force $800 and paid for itself in the first 21 lubricott for safety every 1000 miles days of operation. Prior to installation of the ma chine, the liners were folded, and cement hand brushed- into place. Cellophane tape was used to hold the seal while the cement was setting.' This slow, tiresome process required three employees., The new dispenser uses compressed air to force the hot asphalt out of the machine and into a nozzle equipped with various brushes. The asphalt is brushed into place, and the resulting seal is quicker and (UTOCO) - UTAHOIL REFINING COMPANY P stronger than the former cement seal. Only one operator is needed to operate the dispenser. New System Speeds Movement Freight A new system of moving freight from warehouses to packing and shipping points has been started here at Hill. According to Elwood FURNITURE ' Murray, 3746 Jackson Ave, Og-de-n, chief of the storage branch, the innovation, working on the "Iceman Cometh" principal, speeds i freight movement greatly, Murray stated. Signs reading "yes" or "no" are placed on the outer wall of the warehouse, so the truck drivers will know whether or not to stop or proceed to the next point. The trucks move in a continuous circuit picking up the material, taking it to the verification unit, then to shipping, and back to their rounds. The drivers carry loads that range from three or four tons to ! 30 u 7eelt-En- d A i ii i less than a pound. Specials Every Day and HARDWARE Phone Sunset, Utah OPEN EVENINGS UNTIL 8 P. M.
