Hill will be one of six fields in the nation to have so long a runway. Work was started just recently on the grading and leveling which will extend the south , end of the North-Sout- h runway now in use. A small hill, which has long been a source of irritation to pilots, is being completely removed to make way for th extension. Moving the rise will mean moving an estimated 5,120 truckloads of earth. A 1200-foblacktop extension on the north end of the runway was completed this summer. "This finished north extension, the original 75,000 feet of concrete, extension we are plus the 1300-foworking on now will give us the 10,000 feet of runway necessary to handle all types of aircraft," according to Mr. W. L. Shelley, Air Installations engineer. Weather conditions this winter will prevent putting blacktop down until spring, Shelley said. , ot ot Airman of the Month w fcJLCbl - son, 25th Medical Group, Hill Air Force oase, uian, was revenue Ree Air Force Air Depot Wing at Mil wven Shown .above to the grade of Captain. fcoted are Captain's bars. i Smith, Captain Thomas WKtlTS Steeth wearing Captain BaJpn $ A- - 'St" W Fred B.
