Other items in the kits are sleeping bags, winter clothing, Insect repellent, first aid kit, comsnow knife machette, bination waterproof matches, gloves, candle, tools, traveling aids, sewing kit, and also a survival manual with instruction for use of the equip- terials and they are turned over to the parachute textile and rubber branch for assembling, then returned to supply for shipment. The project is being handled by D. W. Smith, chief unit supervisor, Kays vine; and his assistant, Byron I crash landing near Salt Lake LJte ijthe "Slas' o r i Icet o Sixteen hundred arctic survival kits are being prepared by Hill Air Force Base for use in arctic operations, according to Brig. General William M. Morgan, commanding general. These kits contain enough supplies and equipment to sustain life under arctic temperatures and handicaps for 15 days. Three types of survival kits are being assembled and readied for shipment. One kit is used in fighter type aircraft and is attached to the pilot's parachute and automatically accompanies him in case he should bail out of his aircraft. Another type, for fuse aboard larger aircraft, is also attached to the crew's parachutes. Still another kit being packed is an ALL SE all purpose survival kit, which con tains supplies to sustain life for 3 people for 15 days. Decorations for the hangar will include large Christmas trees, nativity scenes, and other colorful items. Decorations are under the direction of Lynn Barringer, maintenance. The night of the party, Hillfield- ers will be allowed to drive their automobiles on the base right to the place of the party. However, Hill AFB identification will be required to gain entrance through the south gate. Guests must be certified by individuals carrying Hill AFB identification. Because of the tremendous crowd expected to turn out to the party, all personnel are urged by Col. Sutton to keep their guest lists to a minimum. He also pointed out that only Hillfielders or their im mediate family will be allowed to claim prizes or gifts.
