Do you feel that you have a good job at Hill Air Force Base? These are questions that should be given serious consideration each employee, and the many advantages weighed against disadvan-tage-by that you may feel exist. Federal employees have a five-da- y work week. This permits tur days each week for fishing, hunting, tending the lawn or garden or uiiitrr wings uiiai are necessary arouna a nome. The liberal leave system provides 26 days each year for vacation purposes and for other short periods of absences to attend to personal business without any loss in pay. It is also possible for you to build up a reserve of annual leave which is definitely equivalent to a semi-- . bank account. The leave system also provides good insurance for continued re. ceipt of salary checks in the event of sickness or injury. Sick leu accrues at we rate or 13 aays per year and may be accumulated to a total of 90 days. Lets use an extreme example and see the leave system in for Here is what it means in dollars and cents. Willard James, an employee in the Federal Service, is employed a a carpenter at $1.25 per hour. Carl Black is employed' in private industry: at $1.50 per hour. For comparative purposes, let's assume that both employees took 26 work days leave during the year for vacation purposes, etc. Both employees received injuries which incapacitated them for duty far 30 work days. Willard ; James received full pay for his absence from duty, normally Carl Black would not. Both employees were members of the National Guard and participated in the summer encampment for two weeks.-Willar- d receives military leave and gets full pay for the period. Carl does not. There are 8 national holidays that Willard is paid for while Carl is not. These employees actually, only worked 1488 hours of the 2080 hours scheduled in a year. Willard received pay for 2080 hours at $1.25 per hour or $2600.00. Carl received pay for 1488 hours at $1.50 per hour, or $2232.00, or $368.00 less for the year than Willard, even though Carl earned $.25 per hour more than Willard. Legislation and regulations provide f6r Federal employees protection against loss of earning power if yof are injured on the job through no fault of your own, which includes medical service and hospitaliza tion, if necessary, and protection for your family and dependents if you are killed on tne job tnrough no fault of your own, including a liberal . burial allowance.
