The new system would create a backlog of work making it possible to feed it at a uniform rate to the various departments con cerned. By doing this, it was said, more efficient utilization of manpower will be possible together with increased employe skills. Compared to Dam Continuing, he compared the new idea with a dam of water. If the organization is considered as a pipe line and the work as water, the control point represents a dam and the back log the amount of water in reserve back of the dam. The greater the dry spells the lower the reserve falls and the. higher must it be initially if the pipe line is to maintain a constant flow. Y During the past two weeks, a survey has been in progress to ascertain the work load of the various sections per day and, from that, the hourl" load capable of being handled in each unit. This information is essential to the feedof ing of work to units in amounts with their capaciWeek commensurate Concluded ties. T, Vernon, assistant, control section, and Lt. R. A. Shannon, assistant, control section, worked on the manual. Purpose of the new manual will be to serve as a practical guide n the establishment of the new system as ordered by ASC headquarters. Pending successful operation in supply, the new idea may later be instituted in other departments on the post. Snow said that at least some sec- ions at Patterson Field are now operating under the idea. With Lt. Vernon he recently returned from a conference at ASC headquarters, called to initiate control depot representatives in the t program. Two Principles The manual outlines as the two basic principles of work leveling: (1) Work to be moved at regular intervals of time, and (2) Volume of work in each unit to be constant. It explains ' in detail the idea of work leveling, and will be distributed to supervisors in supply to aid in setting up the program. Heretofore, Snow stated, there has been a tendency for work to flow unevenly and spasmodically excessively during certain hours work-levelin- STRIKING A glamorous pose is lovely Osa Massen who will be seen in "Jack London" with Michael O'Shea and Susan I lay ward at the Post theatre Sunday and Monday, January fun-pack- ed fast-stepnin- distribu A new system tion or work leveling was begun last week in the supply division in compliance with a recent order from ASC headquarters affecting all major air depots in the Pin-Up- s Rilev E.
