Wednesday July 14, 1943 Engineers Office Supervises $20,000,000 in Construction 9 Present Expenditure of Nearly Million And Half Dollars Only Small Part of Program Carried on By Area Office Here Permit 204 Men to Retake Army Test Improved Scores Often Needed For Advancement In the first six months of this year 204 enlisted men at Hill Field were given an opportunity to better their original scores on the Army General Classification Test, according to the Base Classifica tion office. In addition, 75 men have been given mechanical aptitude tests for the first time. In order to retake the AGCT an enlisted man must have had a mark lower than 110 and need that mark, or some other mark higher than the original, in order to qualify for special phases of the army program. Having completed nearly $20,000,- -f worth of construction work and still in the process of erecting hangars, flight test buildings, air freight terminals, end paving streets, the Area Engineer organization has shouldered the bulk of construction work at Hill Field, and has added daily to the nation's air arm. In the last month the organization has launched a huge building program costing approximately a million and a half dollars. The program includes facilities for both civilian and military', personnel. There is warehouse space for the storage of vital equipment, hangars, air freight terminal, school for buildings and ' even barracks - the WACs.' The organization works under the guidance and supervision of the District Engineer office which is at 32 Exchange Place, Salt Lake City. It is a government organization framed along military lines for engineering and construction work. Also, it is a contracting office acting for the. government, and supervising authorized construc- 000 ' needed for OCS and 100 to file for air cadet or gunner. The exception to the above is when a required score is hisher than 110. The Army Specialized Training Program (ASTP) re quires a score of 115 in the AGCT. In this case men having over 110 tion. .
