"The UP&L official said the outage tripped switches at the Carbon Plant but power and generation restored after a matter of a few seconds, he said. The outage was apparently caused by a surge of power coming from the northwest area and tripped relay switches throughout Utah. The outage affected the area and knocked power out for about an hour. Scofield was also affected by the outage. Residents in Salt Lake City were asked to conserve water because the outage stopped all water pumps in that city, but the water system in the Helper area is natural flow and the outage had no effect. is water Although pumped to Kenilworth, the Price-Help- er Space needed for hospital staff Carbon Bob Quist, Hospital administrator told the Carbon Hospital board Thursday night that the hospital is in desperate need of more office space. Quist told the board that the hospital could use the office space immediately to house the computer, admitting and other offices. He said at the present time, admissions are taken care of in the lobby of the hospital. He said many times patients are asked personal questions which should be confidential between the hospital and the patient. Another problem Quist observed was that the patients being admitted is often in his or her pajamas and, at times, in pain. Quist showed the board members a space between the laundry and the administrative office area where a business trailer could be placed. He said a trailer which would house four offices would cost about $8,500 and the tran ... sportation and installation would be another $1,000. outage apparently did not affect that water supply as the reservoir there handled the water flow. Quist said the visiting doctors are complaining that they see more patients than other hospitals. He reported that most hospitals have 50 to 60 visits to the emergency ward per weekend, while Carbon Hospital averages 100 to 125 visits per weekend. He said the repeater station will be placed on Ford Ridge near Scofield to allow radio contact through the canyon. The state has provided the funds for the project, but the hospital will have to pay for the rental space at the summit and the cost of phone line rental. Delpha said the hospital will be responsible for the maintenance of the unit and for the rental. He said the cost will not be high, but should be shared with the City and the county. As yet, he said no definite committments have been made maintenance. Bob Quist, new administrator at the hospital, said he is negotiating hospitals in Utah County for help in maintaining the unit. He said they have tentatively agreed to help with the funds necessary. In the past, Delpha said, the emergency medical technicians (EMT) who man the ambulances could not receive instructions from the doctors at the hospital because of the lack of radio communications. He noted that the EMT's are now being trained and qualified to administer some injections. With the coming station, those instructions can be carried out.
