Upchurch, who retired from the military in 1972 after 23 years, went to Salt Lake City that same year to become manager of the Fort Douglas officers' club. He said he and his wife, Ollie, "fell in love with the state" when he was stationed here in the late 60's and thus jumpejiat the chance to return. Prior to his employment in Salt Lake, Upchurch spent much of his time in the military managing both officers' and non - commissioned officers' clubs. In the 1960's, he was also employed with a restaurant and catering service in Covina, Calif. Mrs. upchurch and their daughter, Sherri, 12, who have been visiting the club on weekends, plan to move to the area when school breaks for the summer. Meanwhile, Upchurch said he had found his first three weeks in the Helper area happy ones. Candy sale raises funds for sign The Helper Junior High student body's candy sale to raise money for a sign for the front of the building is now under way. Goal for the sale is approximately $350, according to PTSA president Mrs. who added that the project is expected to be complete by the opening of school in the fall. The sign will cost about $600, Mrs. Higham said.
