In fact it was the Helper Kiwanis Club that organized little league baseball in Helper back in 1952 under the direction of Helper Postmaster Ed Marchetti, when he served as club president. The Annual St. Anthony's Altar Society "Mama Mia" Spaghetti Dinner will be held September 22 at Helper Civic Auditorium. The dinner will be served progressively from 3 to 7 p.m. Tickets will soon be on sale from members of the Altar Society for $1 for children and $2.50 for adults. Through the years Mutual Furniture has won their share of the league starting championships, with a title the very first: year and just last week adding another to their string. Jim Beason, a third year manager in the league, guided the Mutual team to the title this year and he was assisted by Jim Tamllos and Bob Farrell. Effective Sept. 15 Beason is a mine mechanic for Carbon Fuel who prefers to work straight "graveyard shift" in order to have ample time to work with his team. Farrell is a Helper and loan insurance manager who is working in the league for the first time. The Kiwanis team was under the guidance of two team. The team was in the thick of the running most of the first half, but tailed off during the second half. An abundance of capable younger players on the Kiwanis team indicates that this will be a crew to be reckoned within a year or two. Membership in the Helper Gun Club will be increased to $25 effective September 15, announced president Joe Gianini this week. Persons wishing to join the club should do so before the raise becomes effective, Mr. Gianini emphasized. The club presently has 240 members, he added. club first organized in February of 1970, membership fee has Since the been $10. The club president and assistant Tom Boyack of Helper are remodeling the traps at the range on reservoir hill. The first trap built, No. 4, was originally built to specifications, but the 27 yard line is eight inches higher than the 16 yard line on No. 3, the second trap built, Mr. Gianini said. The new No. 1 and No. 2 traps located west of the first traps built are nearly completed. Shortly, the club will start construction on its new 30 by 60 foot club house. The facility will stand between the No. 2 and No. 3 traps, said Mr. Gianini adding "we want to be second to none in the state!" & Lan Resources Roundup" this ' "Fishing week. . v SSr ' " Byjpnrrffmltinlrr- - '""T"TT"HHI iFiT II ..
