The council first heard a delegation from the Carbon County Chamber of Commerce which had former Mayor Chris P. Jouflas as their spokesman asking the panel's support in an effort to save the Pleasant Valley Mine Office building in Castle Gate, a structure which some time ago was added to the Utah Historical Society's list of historical buildings for preservation. McCulloch Oil Corporation, purchaser of the Castle Gate properties, has served notice that the historical structure must be removed from its present site and has offered some alternatives for preserving the historical significance of the building. The Chamber committee is advocating the moving of the building to a site in or near Helper with a long range goal of combining the present Western Mining Museum, presently housed in the Sub-divisi- Two cars damaged A collision here on January 20 near the intersection of Canyon and Fabrizio street resulted in an estimated $1,000 damage to two cars. Mr. Despain is primarily interested in the development from stuctural and zoning basis while the Salt Lake firm is primarily working towards the provision of adequate supplies of culinary water. After the Trico representatives left the meeting Mr. Despain appraised the council of problems facing the city in the new annexation and development. These problems include quality of structures moved, environment in which they are placed, building codes and various other aspects. Templeton, Lenke and Allsup discussed the possibility of a new storage reservoir for the community, this one to be a steel structure and placed west of the present underground concrete tank and at a higher elevation to serve more development that may take place at the mouth of the canyon. After a lengthy discussion on the questions raised by Mr. Despain, the council agreed to authorize the Provo planning consultant to meet with the Trico planners to work out details of the move in regards to the quality of the structures, their placement, sewage connections and the various other aspects facing the project. Although the subdivision has not been annexed into the city limits, the city fathers approved to annex only south of the Utah Railway steel bridge in Spring Canyon. In other matters, the city panel authorized Councilman Ernest Gardner to ask coaches of Carbon High School and the College of Eastern Utah for money for using Helper's baseball diamond this coming summer. The schools' baseball teams expect to play all their home games on the city's field. John Costello of Bryner Street appeared at the meeting to object to the many junk vehicles near his home. Council said it would take action to clean the area. All members of the panel were present for the session including city treasurer Vince Garavaglia, Police Chief Karl Stavar, Street Supervisor Louie Lupo and Watermaster Kerry Neilson. The council also called a special session Tuesday night upon request by Mr. Despain in regards to the subdivision project. The results of the meeting were not available as of press time Tuesday afternoon. fl.'bl Ml - icuu Ilr rrv - -- . So, I made by own," said the 45 year resident of Helper. Mrs. Krissman said she made the bags sturdy to they could hold many items if they are stacked right."l used to carry a bag like this when we used to live in Spring Glen in 1947 and would walk to Helper to shop." She remembered carrying two bags twice a week from Spring Glen to grocery stores in Helper. She preferred the homemade bag then because they were easier to carry when walking long distances.
