I suppose it stopped to get a drink from the stream flowing in the canyon. After getting her fill of water she tried to rejoin her comrades and found herself unable to get through the deep snow. Mark Nelson, employee of Mountain States Gas Company, notified me of her plight. I went to the area and located the cow but was unable to assist her. The next day I returned to the site with hay and a scoop shovel to clear a path for her escape. I left the hay at the mouth of the canyon and intended to return the next day and carry the bag to the natural trap. To my surprise I found the hay had been carried into the elk by someone. Inquiring local citizens of Clear Creek, I found out the elks benefactor and mine was Harry Haycock.
