Show Thursday, Jan. New breastfeeding group sets Jan. 17 meeting The newly organized Helper group of La Leche will hold its first meeting on January 17, at 7:30 p.m., at the home of Paula Thatcher. La Leche is Spanish for "the milk." "A about the new Helper LaLeche League Group, women may contact Mary Curtis at 637-138- 4. Lana Tomsic returned home to Grand Junction, Colo., on Friday after n, non-prof- it organization, the League's purpose is to help encourage good mothering through breastfeeding. The group will meet on the third Thursday of each month. A series of four meetings will informally discuss different phases of breastfeeding. Topic for the first meeting will be "Advantages of Breastfeeding to mother and child." Discussion leader will be Mary Curtis. All women and babies are , invited. A woman need not be pregnant or have a family to attend. Le Leche League began in a Chicago suburb 14 years ago, when one mother who had successfully nursed her baby helped another who wanted to breastfeed. This is still the basic approach, although the League is now international in scope, with more than 1,000 groups helping thousands of women in the United States, Canada and 12 foreign countries.
