Kiwanis is a familiar name in the Helper WBBA for more reasons than one. In a single game played July 16, Kiwanis shutout Helper Mercantile, 6 to 0. The Kiwanians picked up two runs in the first inning, added three more in the fourth, and scored a single tally in the sixth for their six run total. There was a total of eight hits in the ball game, four by each team. Bob Cook had two doubles, Scott Nielson added another and Dale Reid picked up a single for the winners, while Troy Bryon hit two singles as did David Maynarich for the Helper Merc. team. The game July 17 matched Central Commission with Mutual Furniture. The tightly played game left the Commission boys victwo-bagg- torious, 7 to 5. The ball game was a pitcher's duel with" Gary Riddle throwing for Central Commission and Jody Skerl on the mound for Mutual Riddle was credited with the win as he struck out ten, walked three men and allowed three hits. Skerl also fanned ten batters, walked two and gave up four Commission hits. Furniture. Central Commission jumped off to an early 2 to 0 lead in the first inning and picked up a third run in the top of the fourth to widen it to 3 to 0. Mutual came back in its half of the frame to score two runs narrowing the Central Commission lead to one run. The Commission crew scored three runs in the fifth inning without the benefit of a hit. The score then stood at 6 to 4. Commission final tally came in the sixth inning.
