WILDMON SOME WORDS TO LIVE BY There is always in our world a Back nearly two thousand years ago a very wise man wrote same very wise words. This is what he said: "A word in season, what a help it is." The writer of the book of Proverbs was, indeed, a wiser man than we sometimes give him credit for being. The author of Proverbs went on to state that "a word fitly spoken is like apples of gold in a setting of silver." There are some key words which, if one will genuinely use, will make life much more meaningful. There is the word of humor. Humor is, without a doubt, one of the finest medicine3 we have. It will cure a multitude of real and imagined ills. It will help calm anger, cool tempers, and remve hatred. One thing is for certain, itis aqual ity we could use more of in our world. r Those who have learned to use humor have found it a very good partner. Look at some of flhe fantastic salaries being given to top comedians. "''Si! tension-packe- I place for humor and anyone who knows how to use it. Then there is the word of appreciation. Most of us have underestimated the real worth of this word. One day I received a note of. appreciation from a friend of mine in the morning mail. It didn't take two minutes to write that note, and it contained fewer words than an average grocery list. Yet it meant more to me than any other piece of mail I received during that entire month. How often we could show appreciation and how few are the times we actually do it. "Thank you" doesn'lt take two seconds1 to say and could last a lifetime. The wise imam was correct: "Anxiety in a man's heart weighs him down, but a good word makes him glad." There is also the word of encouragement. Sometimes this word of encouragement makes the difference between heaven and hell. I have hit rock bottom in my life many times only to have someone speak a word of encouragement to me Consumers Got Their 'Week' May 1 through 6 has been designated "Consumer Information Week" by the Council of Bettor Business Bureaus, Inc. Its purpose is to further the relationship between consumer and industry in the area of product information . . . and to give consumers encouragement to make their wishes known to manufacturers. A questionnaire enabling the consumer to express his likes and dislikes is available as part of this event. One of the companies participating in the awareness campaign is the KitchcnAid Division of The Hobart Manufacturing Company, Troy, Ohio. Charles R. Evans, vice president of marketing, says that, "Companies welcome a knowledgeable consumer, and part of Consumer Information Week is to advise consumers of the numerous channels of information open to them." "Most companies have recognized their obligation to be consumer for a long time," Evans said. "And from product design through manufacturing, marketing and servicing, many individuals have made consistent efforts to observe practices and procedures intended to better meet the wishes and needs of the consumer." Both the consumer and the businessman should benefit from Consumer Information Week and the priority position given to top management's interest in the issue of consumers' rights.
