It was proven last Sunday that on the part jf there is a will to win, of the players and everything being and win. equal, they just go ahead There isn't any doubt in my mind that if the little petty bickering and that apparently is going mem on among some of our team end, and the bers would suddenly in fighting same energy exercised along with the manager and other members of the team for our team to be long until the win, it wouldn't would be in the Utah Distributors position they were when the season first opened "the team to beat for the title." the Some are craibbing because local kids aren't playing regular: Some say, "Zac" is nuts when he or he's nuts changes his lineup when he doesn't change it. It's sort of a natural thing for all ball fans to express his ideas about who is the best player in this position or that Ibut if the players themsposition, elves will let the manager run the team, and the fans do their directing from the grandstand, Helper will have that winner we all hope so enthusiastically for. g SENATOR COWLES ANSWERS PRICE'S MAYOR J. Bracken Lee, who last winter shortly after the 1947 legislative session opened, wrote the senator suggesting that he resign ion as Carbon county's the his posit- representa in the state senate. Mr Lee gave as his reasons, quote: "Since you have ceased to be a resident of Carbon county, I feel it only fair that your post to a man ho is a bona-fid- e resident of this county." Those aren't the exact words, but they give substantially Mayor Lee's thoughts. After reading Senator owles' letter, a copy of which was received by me yesterday. I get the impression that Mr Cowles feels that he ffas justified In retaining his seat regardless of Lee's protests. He denies that he moved his family from Price as soon as he was elected to the senate in 1944, but points out to the mayor that his wife and family moved before hp was elected to the lower house in 1912, and only bcause of their health. Opra Jj AT According to William Campbell, Carbon Centennial committee chairman, Mrs Therald Jensen of Price will direct the pageant that is 8lated to be presented in Carbon county July 17 and 18 as the feature attraction of this county's observance of the entry of the Mormon pioneers into Utah. She replaces Mrs Henry Ruggeri, who resigned. The pageant that will be produced during the next five weeks was written by Mrs B. D. Redd of Price, A contest sponsored by the Writers' League produced Mrs Redds winning pageant. She will assist Mrs Jensen in the production, and other committees will be named by the director at a meeting next week. Members of the executive committee appointed to the pageast are Isaac McQueen, member of the North Carbon LDS stake presidency, and Reverend Richard E. Halbert, Price community church. At a meeting of the committee held at the court house Tuesday night Mr Campbell announced the change in directors of the pageant, and called on all present to get solidly behind the project and Mrs Jensen. He reported that invitations will be sent to all former Carbon residents who live elsewhere to attend the and pageant on June 17 and 18. "There is only one way we can eliminate missing any former Carbonite and that is to have complete cooperation from the public. If you know the address of people, please send that information to B. H. Young, county clerk of Carbon county," Mr Campbell said. Elsewhere in the Journal will be found a blank that can be clipped and used to supply information to the committee. There is need for pioneers who were born prior to 18S5 to appear in the pageant, and help in securing the names of these people is desired by the committee. The pageant previously had been set for August 4 and 5, but because it has to be presented at the Carbon College athletic field, there was a conflict with the Robbers' Roost Roundup, so the time was advanced to the July dates. Programs will be printed as soon as the personnel of the cast has been determined, and motion pictures will be made of the performance. home-comin- MJNUAT g Helper Vet Accepts Call On Mission; LD.S, SERVICES Under the direction of Mrs Pearl Gardner, president, the Helper LDS ward primary held their graduation exercises Sunday evening in connection with the regular Sacrament service. Representing Helper at the meeting were Councilman J. J. JJaipiaz ana Attorney Thorit Hatch. The opening of the bids followed a lengtny discussion at tne joint meeting of the two councils at Price. were Also attending the meeting William Campbell, chairman of Carbon county commission, and B. H. Young, county clerk. Lauren W. Gibbs, Salt Lake City, explained possible methods of financing the joint system, which will include a main sewage line from Help er through Price and to a point south of Price where a primary treatment plant will be installed. Mr Gibbs stressed the forming of a sewage district to take care of communities and homes located be tween the two cities. This, he said, was a more favorable plan than having Helper and Price bear the full burden and fix a charge for unincorporated county connections. He said that the establishment by the county commissioners of a sewage district would make it much easier to take care of future needs of the sys tern arising from the growth in pop ulation of this unincorporated area. Neither bid, opened by Mayor JBracken Lee, Price, offered to dispose of the bonds at any fixed rate Each offered to set up all necessary financing machinery on a percentage cost for each bond sold with the un derstanding that no obligation would occur unless the bonds were actually sold. The sewage system construction has been agreed to by both city councils. Main objective is to elimyi-atthe unsanitary conditions now of existing through the practice dumping waste into Price river.
