WILL THE MINING Elects At Last Executive board members of thr Carbon County Associated Industries meeting in regular session Tuesday night at the Price civic audiitoriurn considered several legislative measures that have been either introduced or will be presented to I'tah'a two legislative bodies during the present session of the legislature. Senate Bill 40, sponsored by Senator Ed. Watson, Salt Lake, which proposed to expend $100,000 of state funds to erect or rent a plant for experimental purposes in making smokeless fuel, consumed more of the organizations time Tuesday and when every angle bad been discussed the. group drafted a resolution opposing passage of the bill. It was fer. by the group that the time was not 'ipe for such a plant, and that the proposed $100,000 of taxpayers money would not be sufficient to build and maintain the plant. Also past experimental projects undertaken by coal had and other groups companies proven too expensive and bad b.v-abandoned. The lesolutkm proposed and accepted by the group would support private capital invested to conduct such an experiment, but specifically opposed the state going into th coal business in direct opposition to coal companies. It also embodies a proposal that encouragement be given to an educational program that would aid people in using coal burning wiuip-men- t that would scientifically consume raw coal without creating large volumes of smoke. Another measure which has been prepared by Senator George Miller of Price that would broaden the powers of county commissioners in the state in levying and collecting taxes tor promptional or advertising purposes, was a step in the right direction, but in the opinion of the group the, bill should be further amended to pro- tect other appropriations that are COMMITTEEMEN OF often made by commissioners.
