Show f I THE HELPER JOURNAL County School Entered as second class mail matter at the postoffice in Helper, Budget Gets Carbon County, UtaJi. DeLOS E. BRANDON PUBLICATION DAY CAEBON HELPEB, COUNTY, UTAH, THUESDAY, JUNE 2, 1932 THE JOURNAL EEACHES TWENTY-SECONMILESTONE With thi3 issue, The Helper Journal, successor to the former Helper Times, commences its 22nd year of continuous publication in this city the completion of 21 years of service to the public. For 21 years, The Journal has worked and striven for the betterment of Helper, through various managements and ownerships, and we find today the office better equipped than ever before to meet the requirements of this community. It is a strange coincidence that this combined 22nd anniversary and Helper Day edition sees The Journal printed on its new large e press, completely adjusted and ready to deliver first class presswork in every manner. This issue sees The Journal equipped with a folding machine which will be ready for operation in just a couple of weeks, so soon as it can be set up and the necessary adjustments made. The linotype machine and job presses have been partially rebuilt, with new parts still to be added as replacements; new job type has been purchased, including some of the very latest designed faces; our job stock is un usually complete; two advertising cut services now are available for the use of merchants; a comio strip has been added; special news feature cut service has been purchased, giving our readers the latest news events of the day in pictorial form; fashion features have been added, as well as sports. The Journal today enjoys the finest equipment which ever has been had in the office, and it all has been purchased with but one object in view that of better serving Helper and its splendid trade D our-pag- territory Helper always has been, and still is one of the very finest com munities in the country anywhere, with a payroll which is the envy of many other towns throughout the land. It is a progressive com munity, and we trust our next 22 years of service will see a still greater growth of the community and its business houses. That The Journal has made such heavy expenditures and investments at this time, when business conditions are at lowest ebb in the history of the nation is but further proof that we are convinced that the future of Helper is sound that we intend to make The Journal bigger and better in line with constant progress and that we are hero to serve Helner and its adjacent communities 100 per cent first, last and all the time. AIDING THOSE NOW IN DISTRESS Congress now has several measures under contemplation which are desismed to relieve unemployment, outstanding among them being a bill which would provide four hundred millions of dollars for the erection of public buildings. It would be close to a year before governmental red tape could be disposed of and work commenced in a degree where it would be of assistance to those in need. That is not the relief we need. The state of New York is contemplating placing needy families on state lands, where they can farm and raise their own necessities of life. That will not help the nation's predicament. What we need now is immediate employment of hundreds of thousands of men now out of work, many of them with families to support, and many of them in dire want. The nation needs an immediate release cf the frozen assets the gold hoarded or withdrawn from circulation and a general revolving of the wheels of commerce and industry. We are treading on dangerously thin ice" at this time and politicians still are stretching the rope to the breaking point digging out ideas that will make good campaign literature next fall. What we need is a general improvement of working and business conditions and a whole lot less talk. It is time some of the boys quit passing the buck and get down to work.
