P. Madsen gave a report on his trip to Salt Lake stating that the dates for the county fair were set for Saturday, Sunday and Monday, September 18, 19 and 20. These dates were set in order that Carbon county could be placed on the entertainment circuit and also because on those machine dates the horse-pullin- g can be used. Mr. Madsen was sent to Salt Lake to consult the manager of the state fair with regard to costs and specifications of an exhibit building which the Carbon board is contemplating construction. C. Penney stores was held at Price Tuesday evening and a very educational program service and of merchandising, salesmanship presented in the talks of the evening. Manager L. R. Eldridge of the Price store gave a review of the recent Penney convention at Denver following the introduction of the forces of both stores. Helper To Increase City Water Supply FISH(CREEK AUXILIARY TO MAIN LINES IN PRICE CANYON WILL INSURE SUPPLY FOR 20 YFARS Extensions to the city water supply made necessary by the Increased population of the community will be made in the early spring months in the piping of an additional supply of two second feet of water to the Helper mains from springs in Fish creek. The present supply, which is being conveyed twenty miles down Price canyon from Colton springs has been found inadequate, and after comprehensive surveys made the past nine months through the offices of the water the superintendent, city engineer, and a committee appointed by the mayor, and through bacteriological chemical tests, the springs at Fish creek have been found to be te best available for community use. The new source of water supply is located six miles from the present mains, and bids are being asked by the City on 31,680 feet of pipe for the auxiliary line to Join the mains. The pipe line construction work will be commenced early in April and will consume a period of not less than sixty days according to o Grand Chancellor Conducts Public K. P. The pipe line extension will be financed without additional burden to the tax payers, since neither the selling of tax anticipation notes, or the voting of a bond will be necessary. By careful curtailment of local improve ments the project can be financed with money on hand. The increased water source of 4 2 times the present supply will not only give Helper and vicinity the very water available in this part of the state, but will be of sufficient quantity to take care of the ordinary growth of the community for at least twenty years, and thus remove the necessity of making additional extensions in the next few years. A crowded house of county fight fans witnessed the card, which was marked by several early knock-out- s. Walter Still, Grand Junction, maintained a strong punch until the close of the third round, and then outfought by his stronger opponent, Paddy O'Brien of Reno, in the Nevada, took a knock-omain fifth go of the event. Helper's favorite little boxer, Vince Shiro, knocked out Doc Lowenstein, in the third round of even fighting. Doc haa numerous decisions of navy battles to his credit. EDUCATIONAL CHAPTER BE INSTALLED AT PRICE MARCH 4 TC A local chapter of Epellon Sigma Alpha, national educational sorority, to be known as Lam-b- a Alpha chapter, will be installed at a banquet to be held in Price Wednesday evening, March 4th. Mrs. Virginia field Norton, secretary of the national headquarters at Kansas City, Mo., is instituting the local chapter, which will number an estimated membership of fifteen from the county communities. Election of officers will also take place at the Installation meeting of the chapter. Mrs. Sarah Frost, widow of William Frost and a former resident of Helper, died at her home In Coalville Sunday afternoon after a lingering illness of cancer of the stomach. She was a sister of Mrs. J. E. Pettit of Helper. Mrs. Frost was born at Coalville August 19, 1861, a daughter of Henry and Jane Wilde The family resided in Helper 13 years ago, during which time Mr. Frost was manager of the livery tables here. After several years' residence In this community the famMy returned to Coalville, and shortly thereafter Mr. Frost died. Surviving are five children. Col ton wherein he speaks most favorably of the securing of a federal buiding for this com- this munity. To quote tho Utah Congressman's letter In part he states: "I am certainly pleased with, the showing postal receipts which you make and will be glad to immediately ' present this matter to the Building commission and try to secure a building for you at the earliest possible date. It is so late that I am sure that nothing can be done this session, but I shall immediately take the matter up w'ith the proper officials and introduce a bill for the building next session." Other Information received details the federal building appropriation has been turned over to Assistant Secretary of the Treasury Terry K. Heath for careful consideration, and conditions appear most favorable for definite action of the local postal building.
