We would like to bring certain pertinent facts to the attention of all residents of Carbon County. Coal is the bread and butter of Carbon County. Coal provides jobs, pays most of the taxes - and coal is the great natural resource and the future of Carbon County. OAS - Natural gas in Utah has put 25,000 people out of work - your people; coal miners, railroad We understand men, merchants, etc. Gas has taken the market of four million tons of coal. Why? Gas is a protected, government-subsidize- d business. The gas company has a is guaranteed a 6.3 return on its and monopoly Capital. Gas is sold to householders at .58-.6-0 a thousand and at a thousand to industrial users - many times below cost, so the domestic customer pays the rate that makes the profit. The gas companys in their report state they employ five hundred people in Utah. This compares to the employment in one or two of the coal mines .24-,2-6 in Carbon County. Natural gas has not brought ONE single new industry to Utah - instead it has put thousands of people out of work. The Utah Power & Light plant at Castle Gate was made possible because the people of Price and Helper, , the farmers, the water companies, the Mayors and City Councils, the County Commissioners, the civic clubs, helped get the necessary water for the power plant. The Utah Power & Light plant at Castle Gate provides jobs for 200 men the year around in the coal mines and the power company, the coal mines and the coal burning power plant at Castle Gate pay more than half of the taxes in Carbon County. What will gas do for Carbon? NOTHING, but put your men out of work. The coal miners and the coal companies spend their money in Carbon County. KEEP THEM EMPLOYED, AND HELP DEVELOP THE PROSPERITY OF YOUR HOMELAND. LOCAL UNION 5916, U.M.V.0F A. LOUIS F.
