Other H-- At Ann Self School Memories live in ioy Scout fireplace Located on the lower floor, next to the kitchen, in the Ann Self Training School, is a fireplace of great significance. It was placed there by a group of dedicated people, whose interest in the welfare of the youth of the area had been proven through many years of service. Going back to the beginning, the fireplace idea, designated the "Boy Scout Fireplace", was proposed by Principal George A. Con- Rowley. struction began in the late 1930's or the early 1940's. The building, at that time was the Spring Glen Junior High School. The services of Parley Jones, a competent mason, was secured to build the fireplace and teachers and the students of the school served as the labor in Cumorah, state, a New York seashell from Australia, a piece of obsidian, a dinosaur bone from Uintah County and a sample of coal from Carbon County. The mantel was made of two inch plank and again special significance is attached to the eighty bore holes found in the exposed edge. In each hole was placed the name of a boy who had attained the rank of Eagle Scout. The name of the boy was written on a small piece of paper and then rolled up and placed in the hole, then a wooden plug was driven into the hole. Many of these boys later lost their lives in military service or through Rocks were hauled from the Price River bed and eventually the room was half filled with rock. From this pile of rocks, Mr. Jones selected only the stones that were most suitable. On the outside layer were placed and rocks petrified materials from all over the western world. There is a granite chip from Hill badge work-shop- various religious faiths assisted in making the Scouting program suc- cessful. The leaders directly involved were Principal George A. Rowley, chair- man of Troop 287. He was awarded the Silver Beaver for his many years of service to scouting. The Troop Committeemen were W.O. Murphy Elmer Timothy and Harold S. Duke. The Scoutmaster was Hyrum Thygerson. . VOTING DISTRICT materials, structures and appurtenances necessary or useful to the acquisition and operation of a complete water plant and system suitable for supplying, treating and distrubuting water to municipalities, industries and other users, including such legal, engineering and fiscal agent expenses reasonably incurred in connection with the acquisition of such water works plant and system and with the authorization and issuance of such bonds as may be properly payable from the proceeds thereof, said bonds to be payable either entirely from ad valorem taxes or from operating revenues of the district, or in part from each, and to be issued at one time or from time to time, all in the discretion of the Board of Trustees of the district? Said special bond election shall be held and conducted in each of the regularly established voting districts contained in whole or in part within Price River Water Improvement District. The polls at each of the foregoing polling places shall be opened on the day of the election at the hour of 7:00 o'clock a.m. and will be kept open and will be closed at the hour of 8:00 o'clock p.m. on said day. There is to be no special registration of voters for such election and the official register last made or revised shall constitute the register for such election; except that the County Clerk of Carbon County will register as provided by law, at his office during regular office hours, except Saturdays, Sundays and holidays, and except during the ten-da- y period immedately preceding the bond election, any person eighteen years of age or older who on the day of the election will be a qualified elector. The County Clerk will make available or will cause the registration agents to t make availabe at each of the above described polling places, a registration list or copy thereof listing all registered electors of Carbon County who reside within that portion of Price River Water Improvement District located within the voting district served by such polling place, and who are entitled to use such voting place. Notice is further given that on Tuesday, April 15, 1975, mat oeing a day not later than ten days after said election, the Board of Trustees of the District will meet at its regular meeting place at 61 North 200 East, in Price.City, Utah, at 8:00 o'clock p.m. and canvass the returns and declare the results of said election.
