Yolles, author of the new column Mental Health, Matters, is the director of the National Institute of Mental Health, and Assistant Surgeon General of the Public Health Service. Named Director in '64, he has served in various posts since joining the Institute in 1954 as a staff psychiatrist. He received his MD from New York University College of Medicine. In 1950 he was commls sioned in the Public Health Ser vice, and suiDsequently served his internship at PHS Hospital on Staten Island. Dr. Yolles chose psychiatry after a number of successful years as a parasitologist. He received his AB degree from Brooklyn College in 1939, and his MA degree a year later at Harvard.
