Utah Tm ThUHSOAV - CLIFTON Manager PASSING IN WORD A 8tand of Teams (County Aovamcc Im s With the new city council sworn In and already working on and thinking about the affairs of our city. It might not be amiss to make a comment or two In appreciation of the s e r v Ices rendered during the past two years by those mon who relinquished their positions as members of the city council and other appointive positions. No person can deny that the personnel of the retired council, which consisted of Dr. J. Joe Dalpiaz, Fred Voll, Bert Bunnel and Albert Ricci, worked long and hard for our community. They are all men with progressive Instincts, men of business and professional prominence, and integrity. What has been accomplished during their two years on the council is a matter of common knowledge to the entire community. Helper Is proud to have had such men at the helm of her affairs. With the Installation of the new council we feel. calm and certain that the same excellent work will be carried forth which Is making our community a very desirable place In which to live. WHAT IT COST WOULD It has been estimated that it would cost $50, 000,000,000 to this country to wage a war against Japan, and that It would require four years, at least, to bring such a conflict to successful conclusion. But no one has estimated what it would cost In the lives of young Americans drafted into service, nor in sorrow for the bereaved ones at home. We must face the issue In realistic fashion. Whether we approve or disapprove, on moral grounds, of Japanese actions, are we prepared to pay the price which must be paid if we adopt the role of world policemen to enforce our own tenets of decency? It would be better to leave affairs in the Orient to the ultimate w orking out of fate, and devote our own efforts to, a war on crime, disease and traffic casualties here at home. SUMMARY: Into a tie for the top spot in the county league with Beckers Uinta of Helper .by handing the Helper last Satboys a 34 to 25 urday night. The uncanny eye for the hoop, and the alround playing of Westley and Holly Bryner proved too much for the locals. Failure of Spring Canyon to enter a team in the league play has caused all games scheduled to b forfeited to the opponents. Fisher won its Tuesday night game via this ioute, but was pressed to the limit to defeat Blatz Beer, entry in the city league. The final score was 26 to 24 for the Price team. Alex Alli son turned on the steam and poured a total of 16 points through the hoop, to keep the Blatz team on even terms throughout the game.
