All of these projects embrace water power, at the expense of the coal producers and mn electrical tion to necessit energy provided by private capital at the present time. Fact of the matter is that this nation spent more for tobacco in 1933 than it did for electricity a hundred millions more! We spent close to $800,000,000 In that year for cigareta and cigars and we spent but $700,000,000 for the current that provided us with light, operated stoves and refrigerators and washing machines, and performed cheaply, efficiently, swiftly a thousand and one other necessary household tasks. That little comparison serves to indicate what a big money's worth electrical power is. No dollar the average family spends brings more that is genuinely worth while none buys so much convenience and efficiency and freedom from drudgery. It is always a bargain and the work of the private elec tric utilities, in lowering the cost to the consumer in the face of rising operating expense, has made it so. ine eiecinc Din per aay or me average home runs around the price of a pack of ciragettes or a glass of beer, or a magazine. Of course, these must be in perfect shape, but perhaps you overlooked a vital safety feature in every automobile the tires. While your brakes stop the wheels, it is the tires that 'stop the car. That fact is being emphasized in this day of high speed and increased horsepower. If you go fast, you must stop quickly. And that is where a good tire comes in. Figures, obtained by the Bureau of Casualty and Surety s Underwriters, indicate that of the cars inspected in a number of states last year had dangerous defects. Nearly 48 per cent of these defective cars were equipped with tires that were cither poor or only In fair condition. A poor, even a fair tire, is liable to puncture or blowout, and everyone knows what that means at high speeds. AH drivers have noticed the abnormal number of blowouts and punctures during the first warm days. The heat has raised the air pressure and a worn tire has blown out or punctured on a sharp obstruction or severe bump. During the winter months the dampness has seeped in through tho cuts and bruises produced by thousands of miles of driving. This dampness JOe z.
