Helper, Carbon County, Utah, Friday, November 10, 1933 displayed a type of courage actually comparable with that shown by the yanks in the World war. In actual fact, they threw aside political yokes, political patronage, booted Santa Claus out the rear door and said: We don't want charity for Legionnaires or men; we don't want money for disabled Legionnaires of disabled men. What we want is assistance for all men, Legionnaires or otherwise, who actually were disabled in or as a result of the World war. There is a rather fine but nonetheless distinct line bemen and tween injured men injured in the World war and it took courage to recognize that line. It took real courage because in the past all that has been necessary, if one can believe the stories heard, was for the men to sit back and wait for politicians to come along and offer them help in one form after another. When the goose is laying golden eggs it requires real courage to leave them in the nest unless they are needed. But that is what the American Legion has done. Liberally translated, this splendid organization of Cut out your pussyfooting and vote-ge- tting men has said: men votes by tactics; cease catering to the indirect methods of bribery, and give your honest assistance to those who honestly require it. We are human and can use all the money you wish to give us, they say, but we don't want it when we have comrades who actually are in want and physically unfit as a result of the war to provide for their families. Help those ourselves. for boys and let us hustle Too many in this day and age have their hands out for a little something or other and it has reached the stage where our nation is looked upon by other countries as a nation of grafters and chislers.
