The Kemmcrer Coal company alone has employed 40 men during the inactive months, and has spent approximately $200,000 in the construction of electric railways and other improvements. x A rumor to the effect that the Carbon county schools probably will be compelled to close about the first of the year, and which has gained rather wide circulation during the past week, was today emphatically denied by County Superintendent of Schools W. W. Christensen. Mr. Christensen states: '.'To allay the anxiety of parents Mrs. Tony Perry is spending a and pupik, and to stop, if possible, the further spread of this few weeks in Los Angeles visiting rumor, may I say that it sucn a probability exists, the the board of education and others connected with the management of the Carbon county schools know nothing of it. "The school calendar adopted by the board calls for a full term of school. The budget adopted by the considerable board contemplates reduction in the amount of revenue for the current year, but this anticipated decrease has been absorbed thru salary cuts, reduction in the number of teachers, and by other economies. At the present time there is nothing in the outlook to justify the belief that this program cannot be carried out as planned. "In the meantime, 5000 boys and girls in Carbon country are profitably and happily engaged in school work. I believe they are justified in looking forward to a full year's work, secure in the belief that no matter what the future months may hold in the way of further public economies, these economies, if necessary, will not be made at their expense." Superintendent Christensen also advises that arrangements have been completed which allow the school board to borrow the balance of money needed for operation of county schools for the balance of this semester if they so desire.
