Show Railroad Notes Traveling George Storekeeper Jensen of Denver is spending a few day3 in Helper for the princi pal purpose of assuring a suffi cient supply of material, tools and supplies for the expected Increase in business. F. V. Curtis, in charge of safety matters and fire prevention, together with Mr. Blackfan, insurance engineer, were recent visitors in Helper, inspecting building, fire fighting apparatus, etc., and found conditions entirely satisfactory. A fire drill was called and the volunteer fire department at the shops displayed their usual 100 per cent efficiency. Congratulations. W. J. Tapp, fuel supervisor, recently visited Helper and most of the mines in Carbon county, in line with his usual tour of inspection. A. C. Shields, vice president and general manager, together with superintendent Hugh Wilson and Trainmaster J. R. Loftis, made an inspection of the railroad property in Carbon county last week. Several trains of silk from the Orient, enroute to eastern market in New Jersey, have passed over the Rio Grande recently, being run as specials and making schedule time. Clerk Fred Lees has been laying off for some time on account of ill health. He is improving gradually, however, and expects to return to work shortly. Clerk H. S. Morrison and family visited relatives In Salt Lake City last week. Scale Inspector Ed McLelland, with his trusty scale test car, is making a tour of mine branches in Carbon county, testing and adjusting track scales and getting them in first class shape for the coming season. Mr. McLelland has just finished testing and repairing scales on the Colorado line, a trip which has consumed about seven weeks. D&RGW Names Suites The D&RGW railroad management this week appointed Doctors A. R. Demman and C. L. Kline of Helper as permanent company physicians at this point. The following is the schedule for the permits: Cache game preserve 60 this year of which 15 may be issued to nonresidents. Last year 75 permits were allowed, and 54 elk were killed there. The herd is estimated at 600. Manti-Fis- h Lake national forest 150 permits this year, of which 20 may be issued to nonresidents. The herds are estimated at 725 on the Manti and 400 on the Fish Lake forests. Last year there were 125 permits, but only 32 elk were taken. In consideration of that fact, it was decided that this year elk with only a spike may be killed there as well as the more mature animals with pronged horns. On all other forests and preserves only prong-horneelk may be killed. In no case will the killing of females be permitted. Timpanogos preserve, 8 permits. The herd is estimated at 45. No permits were issued in this area last year. Heaston game preserve, 15 permits. The herd is estimated at 125 this year. Last year 12 permits were issued and 8 elk were killed there. Nebo area, 50 permits. The herd is estimated at 550. Last year 35 permits were issued and 29 elk were killed there. The herd on Cedar mountain is estimated at 60, has not increased during the year, it was reported. No permits will be issued this year to kill elk on Cedar mountain.
